Treehouse Community Playground - Antioch, IL
Play is critical for a child’s development - The playground will enable all children — regardless of their abilities — to play together, side by side.
It will also allow parents and caregivers with disabilities to play alongside their children.
The Treehouse Community Playground has these wonderful attributes: it is completely fenced in for your child's safety, accessible, includes a family patio with picnic tables, an accessible porta potty, sensory equipment, engaging panels, inclusive swing chair, roller slide, ground level spinner, and a rockin' ship ideal for children in wheelchairs.
Come check it out - open at dawn until dusk.
The playground is official open! Come play!

Kudos to the team from Hacienda for getting the playground equipment installed - in Dec! They will be finished next week. We still have surfacing to be poured (2 layers in different stages. The final one in warmer weather).
And kudos to all of you who have supported this amazing project for the community. We are all very excited and extremely grateful!

KNOW WHAT DEFINES A PLAYGROUND AS INCLUSIVE?
-A professional, strategic design to welcome and include EVERYONE
-A large percentage of specialized pieces of equipment that will accommodate children of all abilities
-A positive environment that fosters social interaction
-A host of engaging activities for those with sensory processing issues
-Accessible, free-standing panels to foster a sense of curiosity and ingenuity
-"Parallel play" - where children with and without disabilities can play alongside each other
-Musical instruments to encourage musical expression
-A themed playground that stimulates imaginative play
-Ramps for those who use mobility devices so they too can reach the tallest points throughout the playground features
-Comfortable spaces for parents and friends to relax, watch their kiddos and meet new families.
The Treehouse Community Playground will be all the above and more. A committee of dedicated volunteers with professional expertise have dedicated 1000s of hours to bring this unique play structure to Antioch. It will far exceed ADA requirements.
Still trying to figure out what to give the person who has everything? How about making a donation in their name to Unlimited Play so we can finish the surfacing in Spring?
Please know we are grateful for your enthusiasm and support.
The Treehouse Community Playground Committee
Installation has remarkably begun! Since the ground is not frozen, the professional installers started last week and will hopefully finish this month. Surfacing will likely have to wait until spring (it requires warmer temperatures).
This morning a fantastic group of volunteers raked dirt, pulled weeds, unloaded & laid down sod & seed to create a handsome yard around the Treehouse Community Playground. Check it out!
The brick work is completed and the cement work begins next week to create a large "family patio." BTW, a wonderful volunteer is building accessible picnic tables for the patio.
This community playground is for ALL children of all abilities so get ready to play!
Here’s an update on the playground's progress:
• Construction has begun. Stop by anytime!
• The Treehouse Community Playground will soon have 501c3/nonprofit status
• Endorsed by the Village, it will officially be designated as an Antioch playground
• Mark your calendar! The Grand Opening will be Saturday, Sept. 30 (tentatively)
• This project is volunteer-driven, with no staff costs and no government funding. It has been completely supported by individuals, local companies and organizations.
The Treehouse Community Playground will create a sense of harmony where all children feel safe, nurtured, valued, encouraged, and respected. This unique playground is designed to provide “parallel play,” where able-bodied children can be with their friends and siblings who have disabilities. Parents and grandparents with disabilities will also be able to have fun with their children like never before.
You might be surprised to know…research shows one of the best ways to build stronger communities is having recreational space that is created to include children of ALL abilities and their families.
To everyone who has graciously supported this exceptional project we again say THANK YOU! You and your neighbors have contributed about 80% of the $570,000 goal.
You can still be a part of this community project. Make a donation by sending your gift to our nonprofit/501c3 partner Unlimited Play – Unlimitedplay.org
