Last night was a beautiful night for ⚽️! The training was a huge success! I only snapped two photos because we were going full-tilt for the entirety of the session!

We started with a dynamic warm-up - lunges, speed drills and feint exercises. Then we moved onto dribbling, continuous sole roles, drag backs, the chop, and receiving on the half turn! After the session we played a pick up game!

Our muscles were burning 🔥 but it was a terrific night of practice 💪and learning! 🧠 Thank you Ade and Amobi!

It's soccer ⚽️ season, folks! A good warmup before training or a game is key to performance and preventing injury. In 2006, FIFA Medical Assessment and Research Centre (F-MARC) developed the FIFA 11+ warm up and injury prevention program. The routine is meant to be completed in sequence, and you only need a few cones and 20 minutes of time. Before taking the ⚽️ pitch, grab a partner and go warmup! 😀 💪

Inspirational! 🤩⚽️

Meet the senior soccer team scoring a goal in life Sports teams are an important part of growing up, and Title IX allows girls to play any sport all the way through college. But there's a generation who didn’t have the same opportunities. NBC’s Stephanie Gosk talks with senior soccer team “Still Kickin” to see how they come together to make ...

How it all started...

I started playing soccer as a little kid. Back in the late seventies and early eighties, soccer wasn't as popular in the states as it is now. There were no girls teams in my tiny south-Florida coastal town, so I played with the boys.

Being the only girl on *Team Action Realty* aka the "Green Team," wasn't a big deal. I grew up with three brothers who were all athletes. As the only girl in a sporty family, I quickly turned into a tomboy, and learned to hold my own pretty early on. I was just another "Green Team" mate (with pigtails and a bunch of freckles) who liked to run and shoot the soccer ball.

Fast forward 40 years, I'm still playing. Funny enough, I'm still playing co-ed. I enjoy co-ed, but as I've gotten older, I enjoy playing on women's teams more and more. There's something special that happens when it's just women players on the field. Communication flows freely. Passes connect. The energy is positive and supportive. There is also an unspoken respect we have for one another as competitors -- fearless women who still play this beautiful, physically demanding contact sport into their 30s, 40s, 50s, 60s and beyond!

Many times over the two decades that I've lived and played soccer in Wake County, NC, I've thought about how great it would be to play in a local outdoor women's league with age divisions that would meet the needs of middle-age women, like me.

A few years ago, I met Susan Morecroft, a terrific soccer player and now dear friend, who apparently had been thinking the same thoughts. At some point during our regular weekly discussions about ALL THINGS SOCCER, we came to the same conclusion. If we wanted a local, outdoor O30/O40 women's league that met our high standards as players and business women, we would need to create it ourselves.

In the spirit of Mahatma Ghandi's empowering quote, “We but mirror the world," we held that metaphorical mirror up and saw a need that wasn't being met. Our world, reflected, is a community of women athletes over the age of 30 and 40 who seek more opportunities to play competitive, fair and enjoyable games.

So here we are. Launching our first season. If we have a manifesto, it is this: We are women who play soccer. We play competitively. We play for the joy of it, and we plan to play for the entirety of our lives. This league is made for us. It is made for you. So, come out and play! www.wwsleague.com
