✨ my mission ✨
👋🏼👋🏼👋🏼👋🏼
Allow me to introduce myself. I'm Dr. Monica Goodman, a specialist in orthopedic and pelvic floor physical therapy and the proud founder of Resist Rx. The idea for Resist Rx took shape shortly after the birth of my daughter when I identified a significant gap in healthcare.
My previous experience in an outpatient clinic provided valuable insights and expertise. However, the constraints of productivity metrics and insurance limitations prevented me from delivering the high-quality, personalized, one-on-one care that I wholeheartedly believe my patients deserve. This realization ignited the creation of Resist Rx.
Here are a few tidbits about me:
⭐️I'm happily married to a former Navy SEAL, and our love story began during a HIIT workout class in Dallas, Texas, before we relocated to North Carolina.
⭐️My daughter, whose name bears the Irish lineage for "warrior," is the absolute light of my world. She embodies that spirit entirely.
⭐️I've completed 14 marathons and I am a 4x Boston Marathon Finisher. (Fun Fact: at my first Boston Marathon I ran a PR)
⭐️I played softball in college, a sport ironically known for minimal running.
⭐️My parents have never missed any significant event in my life, regardless of the distance they've had to travel. They've been there at every finish line, every at-bat, and the birth of my daughter. I'm absolutely certain that if I joined the circus, they'd be driving the clown car.
⭐️While I embrace my Type A personality to the fullest, I'm also learning to cultivate flexibility because, well,

In a recent study published in the Journal of Women's and Pelvic Health Physical Therapy, a groundbreaking investigation titled "Integrating Pelvic Health and Orthopedic Programs to Address Incontinence within the Community for Female Runners: A Pilot Study" produced compelling findings. The study unveiled a significant correlation: women who received a well-structured home exercise plan within a community-based framework exhibited a notable REDUCTION in stress urinary incontinence.
My objective is to offer accessible and affordable care to everyone, and this study underscores the effectiveness of workshops and community outreach initiatives. I am here for you 🤍

HIIT and Hormones:
HIIT, being a highly popular and effective exercise method, has gained significant attention. However, it is crucial to recognize that performing HIIT daily can have adverse effects on hormonal balance, particularly cortisol levels. Excessive engagement in HIIT workouts has been associated with elevated cortisol levels, which can lead to various consequences, including:
▫️Increased inflammation: Elevated cortisol levels can contribute to increased inflammation in the body, which is associated with various health issues.
▫️Impaired immune function: Chronic elevation of cortisol can suppress the immune system, making individuals more susceptible to infections and illnesses.
▫️Hormonal imbalances: Prolonged high cortisol levels can disrupt the balance of other hormones in the body, such as insulin, estrogen, progesterone, and testosterone.
▫️Metabolic effects: Elevated cortisol can influence metabolism, leading to increased appetite, weight gain, and potentially contributing to conditions like insulin resistance and metabolic syndrome.
▫️Mood disturbances: Higher cortisol levels can affect mood and contribute to symptoms of anxiety, depression, and irritability.
▫️Sleep disturbances: Cortisol imbalances can disrupt normal sleep patterns, leading to difficulties falling asleep, staying asleep, or achieving restful sleep.
▫️Cognitive effects: Chronic elevation of cortisol may impact cognitive function, including memory, concentration, and decision-making abilities.

Unpopular Opinion: Abdominal specific exercises should be done at the beginning of your training session, instead of at the end. Here’s why:
🌟Core engagement and stability:
💫The core muscles, including the abdominals, provide essential stability and support during exercise.
💫Starting with abdominal exercises allows you to engage and activate these muscles when your body is fresh and energized.
💫Optimal engagement of the core muscles at the beginning of a workout enhances overall core stability and support throughout the rest of the session.
🌟Technique and form:
💫Beginning with abdominal exercises enables you to focus on proper technique and form without the interference of fatigue from other exercises.
💫With fresh muscles and mental focus, you can pay closer attention to maintaining correct alignment, breathing patterns, and muscle activation during abdominal exercises.
💫Proper technique and form are crucial for maximizing the effectiveness and safety of abdominal exercises.
🌟Muscle activation and mind-muscle connection:
💫Performing abdominal exercises early in a workout allows you to establish a strong mind-muscle connection with your core muscles.
💫When you're not fatigued, it becomes easier to concentrate on activating and engaging the specific muscles of the core.
