With the long weekend we were able to complete 90% of our remodel of the Invictus training center with the help of a crew of volunteers.

We now have a dedicated guest seating area, student shoe and bag room, instructor room, joint business office, and wavemaster storage off the mat. This opens the space up considerably and adds to our usable floor.

The first step is the hardest. And the most important.

The difference between a white belt and a black belt… a black belt is a white belt that hasn’t quit.

We made significant process on the remodeling of Invictus. Stephanie and my office, the new student equipment area, and instructor rooms are all finished. The demolition of the closets are finished, the walls are textured, and flooring is down for the new seating area for guests and parents. We will paint tomorrow and then we are all finished. Huge thanks to the Team Unconquerable crew that helped!

One of my former martial arts students, Josiah Marshall, passed away this week.

I had the privilege to share my love of martial arts with Joey as one of my martial arts students in Moore. He rolled into my dojo to watch his little brother train in martial arts.

Joey was bound to a wheelchair. I immediately pushed him to train with me. I borrowed a wheelchair like his so that I could train in it and adapt my system for someone restricted to a wheelchair.

The journey to adapt my martial arts to a wheelchair changed me more than I could explain in this post. It stretched my abilities as a martial artist. It challenged my thinking and approaches as man. And taught me to see things from a very different martial and life perspective as a martial arts teacher.

By the time our journey ended, Joey competed and won martial arts competition, he developed self defense skills, earned belts, and changed not just his life but the lives of every martial artist that came to know him and know of him.

The most unlikely martial arts student turned into one of my greatest teachers of grit and mindset. His memory and impact will continue to carry on through my training mat. I am a better person and grandmaster because he and I intersected.

His legacy in martial arts with Team Unconquerable is simple… no excuses.

Tonight, Grandmaster Matt Antkowiak presented Ms. Analia her Certificate of Achievement for being selected as the United States Martial Artist Association Martial Artist of the Month for August 2024.

Courtney (Jonathon’s wife) joined our training group and earned her white belt. She has been watching from the sidelines for a long time but life worked out and they are both training with us!

So far, we have four members of our training group signed up for United States Martial Artist Association Black Belt testing in January of 2025.

They will receive duel recognition from Invictus Martial Arts and our association!
