In case you're wondering... on October 24,25,26 between the hours of 6pm-10pm, regional Fire/EMS departments will be conducting search and rescue training in the area of Roosevelt Island. You may see rescue apparatus and searchlights in the area, sirens will not be used.

Virginia Sales Tax Holiday | Virginia Tax 10/19/2023

From October 20 to October 22, 2023, Virginia will be having sales tax holiday. During this period, you can purchase qualifying school supplies, clothing, hurricane and emergency preparedness supplies, and certain ENERGY STARโ„ข and WaterSenseโ„ข products without paying state sales tax.

Here are some emergency preparedness items that are eligible for the sales tax holiday:

- Portable generators โ€“ $1,000 or less per item
- Gas-powered chainsaws โ€“ $350 or less per item
- Chainsaw accessories โ€“ $60 or less per item
- Other specified hurricane preparedness products โ€“ $60 or less per item

This is a great opportunity to stock up on essential items without having to pay any sales tax. You can shop online, in-store, by mail or phone. Don't miss out on this chance to save some money!

On this day, we remember the tragic events of September 11, 2001, and honor the lives lost. We also pay tribute to the brave first responders who risked their lives to save others. The events of that day changed our nation forever, but we emerged stronger and more united.

As CERT, we are committed to helping communities prepare for and recover from disasters. We encourage everyone to take steps to be prepared for emergencies and to support each other in times of need.
