GHA Autism Supports is very fortunate to partner with Access Dental to provide mobile dental care on-site for the individuals that we serve. They provide a variety of dental services for our individuals including x-rays, cleaning, and exams, as well as other specialty treatments. Their specially trained dental teams consist of a dentist, a dental hygienist, and two dental assistants. Access Dental Care is a non-profit organization recognized as a regional, state, and national leader in special care dentistry. A non-profit organization, Access Dental Care has provided comprehensive, mobile dental care for more than 20 years.
Access Dental Care is proud to announce that in cooperation with Dr. Jane Weintraub and The UNC Adams School of Dentistry, our recent research has been published by The Journal of the American Dental Association. The research shows that teledentistry is an effective tool when treating patients in long-term care facilities. Please read the article linked here.

Access Dental Care was honored to serve on the NCIOM task force and were able to advocate for the patients we care for every day.
According to the NC Medicaid Expansion Enrollment Dashboard, nearly 450,000 newly eligible beneficiaries have enrolled as of May 2024. This coverage includes oral health care, though many recipients struggle to access the full scope of these comprehensive dental benefits. One reason is that most private dental providers don’t accept Medicaid patients, partially due to the low Medicaid reimbursement rates that haven’t increased since 2008.
The first of 14 recommendations in the NCIOM Oral Health Transformation Task Force’s recently published report is to “support a patient-centered dental home model for NC Medicaid beneficiaries.” Two key strategies for this recommendation include 1) compensating providers for emphasizing prevention and delivering restorative care and 2) designing reimbursement mechanisms that appropriately compensate for providing care to individuals with special health and complex care needs. https://buff.ly/3QsrC0L

Dr. Milner's early career was spent providing clinical care to children and working to create dental clinic programs through NC DHHS' Oral Health Section and the Randolph County Health Department. Over time, Dr. Milner's focus shifted to providing care for patients with special needs. Read more about his many accomplishments, as detailed by Business North Carolina: https://shorturl.at/hAKX1

Thank you to everyone who joined us for Oral Health Day 2023!
