21/08/2020

It’s our big day! Join us here. Share and support! Here’s a little info why, but our launch will tell you more.

From its construction in 1882 until 1929, Fountain (Stone) Hall primarily functioned as the administration building for Atlanta University, though it contained a chapel, library, recitation rooms, and laboratories during various times in its history. It served in a similar capacity for Morris Brown College for many years. Currently, the structure contains offices, including that of renowned scholar Dr. W.E.B. Du Bois, a chapel, art studios, and a gallery.

With recent momentum and attention, the time for action is now.

Help us to preserve and restore this important legacy.

Morris Brown College is on a comeback, and the ‘hard reset’ starts with our iconic Fountain (Stone) Hall. We want to share our excitement about the future and this first step in the historic preservation of this National Landmark Building with you virtually, live-streamed on the Fountain Hall ATL page

On Friday, August 21, 2020 we will kick off the “Crowning of Fountain (Stone) Hall” at Morris Brown College. This event is just the beginning of the restoration and preservation of Fountain Hall and the site of Dr. Du Bois’ Atlanta University office, where the ‘Souls of Black Folk’ (1903) was penned.

Built in 1882, Fountain (Stone) Hall is a landmark of Atlanta, Georgia on the campus of Morris Brown College, housing the classrooms and office of Dr. W.E.B. DuBois, the chapel, art studios, and gallery.

The Atlanta Branch of the Association for the Study of African American Life and History (ASALH) announces the event this Friday to kick off the initial construction activities for the Fountain Hall Roof Replacement Project. The first of two $500,000 African American Civil Rights grants from National Park Service will be used to replace the roof and preserve the clock tower as the first phase of the historic preservation plan for the “Crown Gemstone” of Atlanta’s Diamond Hill. The preservation goals are to modernize interior spaces and to restore both the historic spaces as well as the connection between Morris Brown College and Atlanta to Dr. DuBois’ legacy of human and civil rights and global economic and social justice impact.

We hope you will become a ‘Pacesetter’ and financially support the preservation of one of Atlanta’s crown jewels. Help restore a landmark on the campus of Morris Brown College and ensure that Fountain Hall is around for generations to come.
