“In 2018, 13-year-old Jaequan Faulkner started a small business selling $2 hot dogs with $1 sodas and chips from a stand in front of his house in Minnesota.

But his small business was in jeopardy after someone reported him to the Minneapolis Health Department.

Impressed by the young man’s drive, health inspectors decided to teach the young entrepreneur about proper food handling to assist him in getting his hot dog stand up to code.

The teen’s stand passed inspection, and it was the inspectors themselves who paid the $87 fee for his “short-term food permit."

“The police precinct has sponsored him for the next permit, so he can sling hot dogs in front of the station. The Urban League and a community church will sponsor his next permits, which will get him through summer and then it will be time to go back to school.

In addition to his business acumen, Jaequan also demonstrated a strong sense of community and social responsibility. He planned to donate 25 cents from every hot dog sale towards raising awareness about youth su***de and depression, issues he had personally struggled with. This initiative reflects his empathy and his desire to use his business as a platform to give back to the community and support a cause close to his heart.

Interestingly, Jaequan’s hot dog stand also became a family affair. His uncle, Jerome Faulkner, played a significant role in the operation of the stand. Jerome helped Jaequan manage the stand and joked about the challenges of working for a 13-year-old. This highlights the supportive environment that contributed to Jaequan’s success and the strong family bond that was at the heart of his business.”

Jaequan said, “One of the things that happened is I was on the Steve Harvey Show”.

"They didn't shut him down," Steve Harvey said of Jaequan. "They showed him how to be bigger."

On the show, Shark Tank's Daymond John gave him a new stand, which he's using this year.”
