In honor of Mother's Day, we wanted to share a story of a mom in our program who's shown true strength and perseverance for her family:

Nacole began cycling in and out of homelessness as a teen after a bad experience in foster care. When we met Nacole, she had become a mom to six children and was struggling to keep her family safely housed. She was suffering from untreated PTSD and bipolar disorder, and some of her children had been sent to live elsewhere, a separation that weighed heavily on Nacole. Like any mom, all she wanted was for her children to be living safely with her under one roof.

After getting the family safely housed, we helped Nacole access mental health resources so she could begin to address the years of abuse she suffered as a child. Nacole is determined to be a better mom to her children and has already begun to mend the relationships that have been affected by this time of hardship.

Nacole is now in school for her GED and has already received her certification as a personal care technician. Her long-term goals are to earn enough money for a down payment on a house and to move her family out of Georgia where they can have a true fresh start as one big happy family.

When hearing Nacole's story, it's hard not to feel like the odds have been stacked against her since the beginning. Despite her difficult childhood, everything she is working towards now is to be the best mom she can to her own children—to give them a better shot than she ever had. We will never stop being amazed at the strength and resiliency of the moms and other caregivers who come through our doors. With the proper support and guidance, we believe that change is possible for any family!

Last week we had the privilege of meeting with our friends at Leadership Atlanta who have been working hard on a strategic landlord outreach plan for us. The goal of this project is to enable Nicholas House to better serve our clients by developing stronger relationships with landlords across the Atlanta area.

As a single mother of three teens, Kim would never have called her life “predictable.” But it still came as a shock when she was faced with the very real possibility of becoming homeless. When an unexpected family emergency occurred, Kim knew she would have to miss that month’s rent payment. She had already been struggling to make ends meet due to the steady increase in Atlanta’s cost of living. All it took was one unexpected expense to make her have to choose which necessities to prioritize. She had hoped to make up the missed payment the following month, but the late fees were just putting her further into debt. The panic was starting to set in.

Luckily, a coworker recommended she contact Nicholas House. Kim reached out to us and was quickly connected to a case manager that approved her for our rental assistance program. With our help, Kim was able to clear the debt she had accrued and avoid eviction altogether. “Thank you, Nicholas House, for restoring my peace of mind!” Kim told us afterwards. We’re grateful that Kim found us, and that her family was able to celebrate the holidays in the place they have always called home.

Recently, we had the privilege of witnessing the Davis family’s remarkable journey from despair to hope. The family of four was evicted from their home, finding themselves in need of a safe place to sleep. While staying at the Boulevard Shelter, Mr. Davis was able to work with his Nicholas House case manager to find a job and secure a new apartment for his family.

Just a few months after their eviction, the Davis family can now enjoy the warmth and comfort of their own home, a testament to their resilience and the transformative power of Nicholas House’s support. Their case manager said that the family's faces lit up with joy as they walked through the front door, realizing that this was the fresh start they desperately needed.

Housing Stability 🏡 With your support, we have provided safe and stable homes to over 45 families in need. This means that 168 parents and children now have a secure place to call home.

Employment Opportunities 💼 Your contributions have enabled us to offer job training, resume building, and interview coaching to homeless parents. 71 parents have successfully secured employment and are now on their way to financial independence.

Children's Education 📚 Thanks to your generosity, we have been able to provide educational resources and tutoring for 255 children in our program, ensuring they have the tools they need to excel academically.

Emergency Support 🆘 Your donations have allowed us to provide emergency assistance to 31 families, helping them stay afloat during unexpected crises, from medical emergencies to car repairs.

Community Integration 🤝 Through your support, we've facilitated community engagement activities, enabling families to build social connections and feel a sense of belonging in their new homes.

Thank you to for creating Nicholas House’s new kid’s reading corner & library! The group, who comes and reads at the Boulevard Shelter regularly, wanted to extend their love and support by adding a library shelf where the children can take a book with them when they leave the shelter 📚

Over the last few weeks, we’ve been busy meeting with our fabulous Faith Partners & Corporate Leadership Council. We’ve definitely got some exciting partnerships on the horizon for the new year!
