Congratulations to the first-ever AJC Peachtree Road Race Strava contest winner, Ivy Asmus!

This year, we asked participants to document their Peachtree route in the Atlanta Track Club Strava Club, and out of the hundreds of stories and activities, Ivy was randomly selected to win an annual Strava subscription.

Ivy's story is nothing short of inspiring. Shared in the Atlanta Track Club Strava Club, Ivy described her 10-year journey battling an autoimmune disease and undergoing 7 spinal surgeries, four of which were spinal fusions. Through it all, she fought her disease and came back stronger, running a personal best at this year's Peachtree!

Now, her running journey is only picking up speed as she is already signed up for the Triple Peach Series, running the PNC Atlanta 10 Miler and Invesco QQQ Thanksgiving Day Half Marathon later this year.

"With my auto immune disease... I’m never promised my health and mobility the next day. Therefore I’m shattering my limitations while I can as that’s all limitations are good for," she shared in her Strava post.

In 1988, years old, Betty Lindberg was tasked with picking her daughter, Kerry, at the Peachtree finish line, and at 63 years old, she felt inspired by the thousands of people crossing the line together, so she decided to give it a shot. This year, at 99 years old, she’s only missed one Peachtree since her first in 1989 and the rest is history.

Meanwhile, 90-year-old Jere Allen, from Birmingham, Alabama, proves to us that so much is possible with the power of community and determination, no matter what age or circumstance. Both runners had their families by their sides the entire time cheering them on, showing us the sheer power of a strong community.
