Where in the park is Skyler? She is getting the park ready for the Summer Shade Festival with a wonderful group of volunteers. They tackled a big pile of mulch to even out the area where the Bouncy House Village will be and to make sure Loomis Plaza is looking beautiful for the festival! Thank you to Hands On Atlanta and all our hard working volunteers, including teams from Constellation and HotelPro.

Where in the park is Skyler this Wednesday? Skyler and Tom (Grant Park’s tree expert) are tagging trees near the gazebo! A few years ago, Tom started trying to tag every tree in Grant Park. Tagging trees helps us keep up with the health and wellness of Grant Park’s beautiful canopy. In this video, Skyler and Tom were tagging a Hemlock tree. The tagging process involves screwing in the tag, measuring the trunk, noting the overall health of the tree, and taking a GPS coordinate so the tree can be added to the Grant Park tree map! #grantparkatl #trees

Erskine Fountain Runs Again!

A shrub native to the rich woodlands of Georgia, Alabama, and Florida, this week's featured Grant Park plant is the bottlebrush buckeye (Aesculus parviflora). This southern butterfly magnet can be quite stunning in full bloom with its showy panicles of tubular white flowers and large palmate leaves. Later in the year, pear-shaped nuts will appear and the leaves will turn a rich yellow. If you're looking for a terrific native shrub for a part-shade to shady spot in your yard, you can't do much better than this! Look for a nice mass of bottlebrush buckeyes starting to bloom at the steps leading down from the Georgia Avenue park entrance. #FloraFriday

One of the scariest things you’ll find in the park are invasive vines. These indiscriminate killers suffocate new growth and steal territory from native and desirable park plants and trees. Our volunteers work hard to eradicate these fast-moving murderers before they can spread. Join us this weekend for Project GRANT to help us keep these vines at bay! #thrillingthursday http://ow.ly/rAOc50wAY8i
