Bye Bye 2023… you beautiful drill instructor you. This year was filled with lots of paper, diapers, empty FaberCastell pens, sleepless nights, sleepy days, emails, stress but also a lot of love & time with my family. I was able to work with some familiar clients and collab with some brand new ones, as well as the opportunity to work on some projects outside of my norm (some of which waiting to release).

Locally, we were able to bring back the Atlanta Rock Poster Show after a 2yr COVID hiatus which was a big success and I hope to keep working with The Rock Poster Society (TRPS) to help expand & support the gigposter scene here.

I appreciate all the support from everyone who has allowed me to continue making a career out of doodling weird pictures and hope to expand as an Artist, a dad, a friend & a person the next year. Everyone have a happy & healthy 2024!!!

And to close out the year,.. here is tonight’s poster for Les Claypool ‘s (Les Claypool’s Bastard Jazz) show in San Francisco.

I always love doing art for Lea Claypool & krew and this Bay Area show allowed me to work together with my old printer again Monolith Press. Win-win!!

Prints will be avaialble tonight at the show and I will have some Artist copies available at some point next week.

I was able to slip a print in before the end of 2023. Here is tonight’s poster for Widespread Panic’s big NYE run here in Atlanta. Kind of a Foxy Pharaoh & its NoteEating subjects.

The Fox Theatre is such a sweet spot to see a show with its rad Egyptian-themed artwork & crazy intricate architecture. Gorgeous.

Prints are currently available at the WSP merch table this weekend and I will have a stash of AP’s & goodies available at some point next week. I will announce release info on those later.

I am happy to share the date for this years upcoming The Rock Poster Society (TRPS) - Atlanta Rock Poster Show. This will be our third time teaming up with SweetWater Brewing Company with the show taking place during their big 27th Anniversary party on Feb 17, 2024.

The event will showcase 20 or so of today’s top gigposter Artists talking shop and selling prints as well as some amazing tunes, tasty beers & live printing by Backside Press .

Here is an old design I did a while back that unfortunately never came out. It was for a project that had some promise but ended up dying half way through as some of these projects do.

I did a stylized take on the great Stanley Mouse’s “Ice Cream Kid” design. I’ve always been a fan of his work and have the pleasure of crossing paths with him during the big The Rock Poster Society (TRPS) show in San Francisco every year. His Ice Cream Kid art is iconic and It’s a bummer things fell through but thems the breaks…

The last couple months I had the great opportunity to work on a new print for Casa Bonita and will be releasing my limited Artist copies tomorrow in my Online Store.

During the Summer I had the pleasure of working with Califari & Casa Bonita on some new designs as the restaurant reopens after their big renovation. The place has been a fixture in Denver since the 70’s and we wanted to come up with something that had a bit of vintage look and focused on the iconic eye-catching pink building.

Along with all kinds of new schwag for the restaurant store, we collaborated with Meier Skis to create some slick new skis and snowboards, both of which are available on either of their websites.

I had the pleasure of checking out the restaurant a couple months ago and it truly is a trip. So happy places like that exist.

I recently was able to work with Casa Bonita to create a commemorative poster for restaurant before their big reopening. I took inspiration from some of their signage from the 70’s and pushed the iconic pink facade & fountain as the focal image and hopefully overall embodies the vibe of the place.

The border encompasses all that they have to offer including a number of their mascots, puppets and imagery you’ll see around the restaurant.

Posters are currently available at the gift shop in the restaurant and I will be making my AP’s available at some point. I will be posting release info here at some point.

The Revivalists just wrapped up their recent EU Tour and I will be adding my Artist copies of the Tour print done for them up into my Store tomorrow, …. Oct. 31st @ Noon (EST).

This past weekend was “Avondale Ale Day” which celebrates the local beer scene voted “Best Small Town Beer Scene” by USA Today for the 3rd time in a row. Three-peat baby.

I was asked to participate again this year by designing a label for the 3 breweries involved as well as a commemorative glass. The loose concept this year was a cast of Cosmic characters.

Happy to show off tonight’s poster done for Goose at the Masonic Temple Theatre in Detroit.

I’m stoked to have been asked to do a print for this tour, especially for Detroit. I dont think I’ve ever done a Detroit print before. Im even happier I spelled Detroit right as its just one of those words that tends to get me.

I took a little break from prints this Summer to focus on hanging with the family, work on some non-poster gigs and to give me a bit of breathing room instead of churning stuff out. Its important as it’ll burn you out. That said, its time to get back to the grind.

The band will have a couple different variants available at the show and I will release APs at some point next week. Will announce later.

Its been a while so let me reintroduce myself. My name is Matt and I run my little illustration studio, Scraped Knee in sweaty Atlanta, GA.

Ive been mainly making screenprinted gigposters for 17+ years (Grateful Dead, Foo Fighters, Widespread Panic, Neil Young, etc..), working with some of my favorite bands and have been lucky enough to some how make a career out of it.

I started the studio while living in San Francisco in 2006, originally making comix & zines, but my gigposter work took off and I have been doing art full-time since 2010.

Originally, I am from Long Beach, NY but spent most of my childhood growing up as a social nomad in Saudi Arabia & Greece. Eventually my path took me to the Bay Area (SF/Oakland), in 2001…home of 60s psychedelic gigposters which I grew up transfixed by.

I made the move to Atlanta in 2017 with my awesome wife Kristin and added 2 kids into the mix. My life consists of a lot of dadding these days.

I dont post a lot about myself which maybe I should get better at but I did want to express how grateful I feel. Being able to make a career out of art has been incredible, fulfilling… painful.. exhausting.. filled with incredible opportunities & collabs… high-highs and low-lows, but there is no way I’d rather do it.

I truly appreciate all you folks that have helped encourage & support me over the years. This life has allowed me to meet and befriend a slew of amazing people. Cheers!!!
