Resilience in Creativity. Here are 4 challenges I have faced and overcame as a maker and creative business owner:

1. Overcoming Injury: Two years ago, I had a freak accident in my shop with an X-Acto knife, almost severing my thumb completely. This injury halted my ability to create handmade products for months. I had to pivot my focus and I focused on partnering with other brands through my digital marketing services. Today, I can only fully feel 9 fingers, so every product you’ve seen me craft in the last two years was made with that limitation. Still, I pushed through—and I think that’s pretty impressive!

2. Enduring Loss: Since starting my business, I’ve experienced tremendous personal loss. I had to step away to grieve and plan funerals for several family members, and that took a toll on my business. Sales slowed, and I had to put brand partnerships on hold. But I’ve channeled that pain into motivation to keep going, honoring my loved ones through my work.

3️. Navigating the End of the Pandemic: The pandemic was when my business thrived. Everyone was at home, scrolling and shopping, and that’s when I really made a mark with my handmade designs. As things returned to normal, the landscape shifted, and I had to adapt to maintain that momentum.

4️. Battling Inflation: With material costs skyrocketing due to inflation, I’ve had to get even more creative with my designs. I refined my business plan, became extra resourceful with sourcing materials, and made sure nothing went to waste. Keeping my shop stocked with fresh ideas has been challenging, but it’s all part of the journey.

I'm trying to be more transparent in hopes of encouraging other small business owners who face countless challenges. This journey isn’t a sprint—it’s a marathon.

It's a new week and a new chance to be great and meet your goals.

I'm starting this week being grateful and excited about the 4th quarter.

A couple things I'm grateful for this week:

There was a power outage in North Carolina from the aftermath of Hurricane Helene with one of my production partners. The hurricane also hit Georgia, but thank goodness there was no delay in any of my business. All orders have had a smooth process. WHOOP! Thank God!

I've partnered with a home décor wall paper brand. Whoop! Get ready to see some of my wallpaper design styling ideas.

Holiday season is HERE! I've been working on some customized products. I have some customizable ornaments coming soon! So stay tuned for that.

I've pushed through so many obstacles and continued to persevere. I get messages and emails from so many of my followers telling me how much I have inspired them just because I have kept going despite the odds.

I'm inspired by so many things. I can be inspired by the seasons changing, colorful flowers, a good TV show, the perseverance of a friend or family through a hard time but not giving up. I get my inspiration from the world around me.
