A well-designed outdoor haven offers an escape from the everyday, transforming patios and gardens into luxurious retreats. In a historic, Santa Barbara renovation, an outdoor entertaining area with trellised loggia was added to craft a more intimate dining experience, perfect for personal relaxation and entertaining guests.

A cook’s dream, the kitchen is designed to be timeless and sophisticated with natural light reflecting off luminous materials and striking, deep blue cabinetry. In an extensive renovation, this residence was restored to its original 1894 design while keeping most of its original features intact, preserving its historic integrity. The harmoniously proportioned façade, massive columns and plastered walls exemplify Santa Barbara’s notable 19th-century Mission Revival architecture.

Every month, Harrison Design offices participate in a 15-minute sketch challenge focused on a significant architectural structure. This month, we’re visiting Petit Trianon located on the grounds of the Palace of Versailles in Versailles, France. The neoclassical chateau within the palace grounds, the Petit Trianon was commissioned by Louis XV in 1758 and later gifted to Marie-Antoinette who personalized it and oversaw significant exterior renovations.

This kitchen design combines industrial elements with warm organic appeal, featuring a dark metal hood with contrasting brass trim and walnut pulls adorning the lower drawers. A sliding panel in the backsplash reveals a convenient storage compartment lined in walnut, while quartzite countertops and custom glass panels of laminated fabric reflect light from tall windows.

Inspired by William Morris and Sir Edwin Lutyens, this Arts and Crafts-style residence blends elements with quaint English Country charm. The main residence overlooks a swimming from its loggia, surrounded by matching potting and pool houses with hipped slate roofs and textured Georgian brick. The 170-square foot potting shed, fully finished and functional, offers a retreat and workspace. These structures exude a charming allure, while water pool fountains add a soothing ambiance.
