Thank you to everyone who came to my campaign kickoff last Thursday! It was a great success! I’m looking forward to campaigning and meeting Auburn people leading up to voting day on August 23rd.
My name is Greg Lane and I am excited to announce my campaign for Auburn City Council Ward 7. I am a Carrollton, GA native and a graduate of Auburn University. I have been married to my wife, Amy for 22 years and we have 5 children, 4 sons aged 19-13 and one daughter aged 9. My wife and I have been coming to Auburn for sporting events together for the last 20+ years. Although we were not Auburn residents for many of those years, we watched the city of Auburn grow to the city it is today. In 2016 we had the opportunity to move our family of 7 anywhere we wanted in the country and it was a unanimous vote, “Auburn!”
I believe that I can bring a fresh perspective to the City Council. I have been an entrepreneur since the age of 28 and have owned several businesses. For 10 years I owned West GA Wireless which was a Verizon retailer. We started with one store in my hometown and expanded to 2 states and 14 different cities. I sold that business and that is when we decided to move to Auburn. By working in the different municipalities I have a first hand account of how city government decisions help or impede a business. Sometimes the growth is too fast and the identity of the town gets lost and sometimes decisions can be made to make it very difficult for a business to thrive. I think these experiences give me a unique perspective as to how we can continue to grow the possibilities of Auburn but also at a pace that won’t change who we are as a town. Currently, my wife and I are both business owners. My wife has had a successful clean beauty business educating consumers about harmful ingredients and mentoring other women as a business coach for 8 years. I am the president of SE Medical and I work with veterans and injured patients with post surgical rehab. What I love about what I do is first and foremost being a service that helps people but also that it enables me to tour the state of Alabama and see what other cities are doing. My wife and I also just opened HOTWORX, a 24 hour infrared fitness studio downtown in Auburn. We are extremely excited to truly plant roots in the city we love and to provide a service to the community.
One of the areas I am passionate about and have over a decade of experience in is our parks and recreation department. My wife and I have both coached various sports at three different rec departments. I would love to see the rec department in Auburn grow to its fullest potential. We have such a young population and are blessed to have so many families moving here. I believe that our parks and rec should be a shining star for the city.
As a business owner who has employed up to 50 employees I know the importance of a great education system. Auburn city schools has built an incredible reputation and I will be passionate about supporting policies that allow the school system to continue to excel.
I have always had a heart to serve. I believe that at this point in my life, with my business and life experiences that the time is now for me to serve my community. My family and I love the city of Auburn, this is where we chose to raise our family and I would be honored to serve Ward 7 to help Auburn continue to grow and excel.
