Over the years I’ve taken many photographs of the Lower Falls of the Yellowstone and this one is my best. Taken in May. The Falls is near the Continental Divide, at high altitude so ice and snow packs still remain near the base of the falls. There was a good breeze so the habitation haze was moved out, making for a very clear view. The color of the valley walls show well in this photograph and the detail is excellent.

Tech; Nikon D610, f/10, 1/320th sec., ISO 250, 200mm lens, manual, RAW, polarizer filter used to improve contrast and clarity. I had to sit on a rock to brace the camera on my knee to stabilize it. The “human tripod.”

Last weekend Rainwater Gallery had the best sales so far this market season! Maple Valley Farmers' Market was very busy in spite of the very warm weather. The Auburn Farmers Market had good traffic. Our black and white photographs seemed to be the best sellers. You can view them at our shop; https://rainwatergallery.etsy.com

On the rugged Oregon coast, cormorants gather in their rookery, perched on jagged rocks that jut out into the crashing waves. Their sleek, dark feathers glisten in the misty sea air as they hunker down in the chilly wind, the harshness of their calls filling the air. Amidst the rugged rocks, these seabirds create a bustling sanctuary of life and activity. Click on the photograph to view a much larger, better detailed image.
Photograph taken early May near Heceta Head Lighthouse.
Tech information. Nikon D610, f/11, 1/250th sec., ISO 400, 50mm lens, manual, RAW, polarizer filter used to improve contrast and clarity, hand-held.

The title of this image is “Gas Works Park #1”, and it depicts the gasification plant that was operational in Seattle, Washington. Here's the link to this photograph in RainWater Gallery's shop: https://rainwatergallery.etsy.com/listing/63645310
I'm drawn to the strong lines and industrial feeling of this image.

This 20 acre point on Lake Union was cleared in 1906 to construct a plant to manufacture gas from coal - later converted to crude oil. Import of natural gas in the 1950's made the plant obsolete. The city acquired the site for a park in 1962. The park was opened to the public in 1975.

Great weekend for RainWater Gallery. I sold a total of 46 photographs. Great attendance at both the Maple Valley Farmers' Market and the Auburn Farmers' Market in spite of being HOT!
The most popular photograph this weekend was “Fog on Reflection Lake, Mt Rainier”. This Fine Art photograph was taken on a rather bad weather day on the mountain. I used a long exposure - 2 secs, tripod - to be able to have a deep depth of field for this composure. Free Shipping for USA deliveries. The 8X10" size is the best value.

This is a photograph that I made in early May of the Twin Falls in Idaho. Taken late afternoon to capture more highlights of the falls and surrounding rock cliffs. This angle of light gives the photograph more of a sense of depth than if made with full on sunlight. Tech Details: Nikon D610, f/11, 1/160th sec., ISO 250, 50mm lens, manual, RAW, polarizer filter used to improve contrast and clarity. Click on the image to see a better detailed, full size view.

Yellowstone American Bison. I produced this photograph as an homage to the itinerant photographers that traveled the west in the mid to late 1800’s. After the completion of the transcontinental railroads settlers move into the western territories seeking cheap land and a new start. Using a 5X7” or 8X10” glass plate cameras with very high quality lens photographers traveled in covered wagons or large buggies seeking subjects and customers. They made their own glass plate negatives and developed the photographs. They might set up in a small town for a few weeks and then move on. Often the used glass negatives of the local citizens were left behind in the nearest garbage dump as they were no longer of any use to the photographer. This photograph has a very small depth of field and sharp detail – characteristics of the camera they used.

The Admiralty Head Light is a deactivated aid to navigation located on Whidbey Island near Coupeville, Island County, Washington, on the grounds of Fort Casey State Park. The restored lighthouse overlooks Admiralty Inlet. It was the companion to the Point Wilson Light, which sits four miles away on Admiralty Inlet's western shore.

In making this photograph I wanted to show the lighthouse more in the surroundings than just a close-up. The other elements that I wanted to display was the sunset light that was getting slightly diffused and some pink color coming to the sky.

Yesterday Cherie and I shared the Market Vendor tent at the Auburn Famers Market. No rain, but cloudy and chilly. We enjoy it when we both attend events. Cherie with her fabric art and I with my photography.
A gentleman bought the purple and green table runner that you see hanging inside the tent and later in the day sent Cherie this email msg:
"Mrs. Sigrist
Thought I would let you know where I decided to place in my home the item that I purchased from you today at Auburn's Farmers Market. I decided that you craft is best being seen fully in my home than to be covered by items placed on it as a mat on a shelf in my kitchen. So, I placed your craft on wall as one enters into my apartment home.
Thanks so much for your craft to spiff-up my home.
Grateful, RW"

We so enjoy getting feedback like this!
