A good home security tip that you may have never thought about.... Most contractors install door plates with the supplied screws which are only a half inch long and come out with one kick by a burglar. Instead, install 4 inch screws in their place. They will go through the door frame and into the framing of the house. Burglers can kick for a long time before they get tired; this causes them to make a bunch of noise and be foiled in their initial plan which may not only give you time to arm yourself but, they will most likely move on to an easier target.

When we purchased our home, we thought the sunporch would be unbearably hot in the summer. We had not counted on the fact that the eves are extra wide over the sunporch windows so that in the summer when the sun is high, the windows are shaded. However, in the winter, as shown here, the sun is lower, and the concrete floor and brick back wall absorb heat, warming the sunporch. Passive solar 1915 style in Tifton, Georgia USA!
