As announced in worship today, Aldersgate will have a pastoral transition this summer. Rev. Brett DeHart has been appointed to serve First United Methodist Church in Sarasota, Florida effective July 1. Aldersgate’s new Pastor will be the Rev. Dr. Scott Pickering.

Scott has dedicated 26 years of service to seven United Methodist Churches within the North Georgia Conference. As a distinguished leader in the conference, he has significantly contributed to establishing leadership criteria for those seeking commissioning and ordination in ministry.

In addition to his church roles, Scott is actively involved in the Boy Scouts of America, serving on the National Committee on Religious Relationships. He is concluding an eight-year tenure on the Board of Directors of the General Commission on United Methodist Men and has led the denomination's Scouting Ministries since 2020.

Scott is also an instructor for Early Response Teams, focusing on disaster relief, and a trainer for Mental Health First Aid. He firmly believes in the importance of mission work, emphasizing its integral role in the church's outreach, whether local, regional, or global.

Academically, Scott holds a Master of Theological Studies degree from Candler School of Theology and a Doctor of Ministry degree in Church Leadership from Wesley Theological Seminary. Further enriching his knowledge, he has studied at the Interdenominational Theological Center in Atlanta and the Church of God School of Theology in Cleveland, Tennessee, exploring diverse cultural and theological perspectives.

We begin a new 4-week series and this week’s sermon covering the first Toy Story movie is “Overcoming Insecurity and Fear” (Romans 8:35-39, 1 Corinthians 13:4-7). In-person services are Sunday at 8:45 and 11:00am. Masks are now optional for vaccinated individuals. We do ask those who are not vaccinated to wear a mask. An invitation to bible study
Invitation is a 10-week study that guides participants through the narrative of Scripture: Creation, the Fall of Humanity, the Calling of Israel, the Life, Death, and Resurrection of Jesus Christ, the Sending of the Church, and New Creation. Each week features a video from Asbury Seminary professor Dr. Brian D. Russell. The study will be facilitated by Pastor Brett on Zoom on Thursday nights at 6:30pm beginning January 28.
