Tom Waits: "I have a relationship with melody and at the same time also with dissonance," Waits said of his musical styles. "It's part of the kind of polar opposites of each other that I carry in me. Two dogs fighting all the time. I think I have two audiences out there: People who want to hear me go out there and just scream and stomp and talk about liquor. And people who want me to get very tender and sentimental and sensitive and vulnerable. It's all part of it."
"Record companies are no longer interested in maintaining or nurturing or supporting the growth of an artist," he continued. "They want you as a cash cow on the day you get there. And then, when you stop making milk they want you on the barbecue right away."
"I worry sometimes about recording, because it feels like you're eating the feathers and you're throwing away the bird," he said. Performing live is different, "because I really ran away and joined the circus," he said.
"That's what everybody did who got into music. You went to a show somewhere and you said, `Man, that's it.' Maybe it's kind of like alligator wrestling, because you're dealing with something that's alive. And you might be thrown by it and you might be gored by it, and it's bigger than you, but you may get to ride it."

That quote is a great example of Charles Schulz's dedication to his art and his refusal to compromise his vision!
Charles Schulz, the creator of the beloved Peanuts comic strip, was known for his perfectionism and attention to detail. He was very particular about how his work was presented and refused to let others alter it in any way.
The quote mentioned is a great example of this. Schulz was adamant that his work be printed exactly as he drew it, without any changes or edits. He felt that even small alterations could compromise the integrity of his art and the message he was trying to convey.
This stance was quite bold, especially considering the commercial pressures and editorial demands that come with creating a popular comic strip. But Schulz was unwavering in his commitment to his art, and his refusal to compromise ultimately helped to establish Peanuts as one of the most iconic and enduring comic strips of all time.
Schulz's dedication to his craft is an inspiration to artists, writers, and creatives of all kinds, and a reminder that staying true to one's vision is essential to producing work that is authentic, meaningful, and impactful.
