UT Aerospace Engineering & Engineering Mechanics, Austin, TX Videos

Videos by UT Aerospace Engineering & Engineering Mechanics in Austin. Home to programs in aerospace engineering, computational engineering and engineering mechanics.

As we near the end of #WomensHistoryMonth, we hope you enjoy these insightful musings from a few of our women at UT Aerospace Engineering & Engineering Mechanics. From advising, to educating, to creating innovative and exciting opportunities for our students and more, their contributions are helping the next generation of women reach for the stars and beyond. 🚀

🚀 “One of our mottos in ASE/EM is “The sky is not the limit!,” and for me, that sentiment carries into being a woman in higher ed: I am surrounded by other smart, strong women who are committed to improving the world we live in. How cool is that?!” - Libby Spencer, Events Coordinator

🚀 “Develop your passion, pursue your curiosity, engineer a better world, and find joy in every discovery.” - Nanshu Lu, Professor

🚀 “I was actively discouraged from going into a STEM field because I was told that wasn’t what girls did. Twenty years later when I started advising in Texas ECE (2002), women were only about 5% of the population in that department. Today, ASE women make up almost 25% of the population and it’s over 30% for COE women! I love seeing this growth and hope to see it continue.” - Renee E. Babcock, Academic Advising Coordinator

Happy Holidays from Texas ASE/EM (2023)
Wishing you and your loved ones an out-of-this-world holiday season from your Texas ASE/EM family! ❄ 🤘

Changing the world, one heart at a time. 🧡 🤘 Take a peek into the Soft Tissue Biomechanics Research Lab led by associate professor Manuel Rausch in the Department of Aerospace Engineering and Engineering Mechanics at the Cockrell School of Engineering - UT Austin. This demonstration, led by aerospace alumnus and research test engineer Trace LaRue, uses the Digital Image Correlation System to capture the strain on a simulated heart valve. When a heart valve is damaged and leaking it can lead to lack of blood flow to the lungs and even heart failure. Knowledge gained from this work will provide insights into the effects of diseased heart valves, leading to healthier hearts and longer lives. #WhatStartsHere #HeartHealth #EngineeringMechanics #TexasEngineering

The new issue of our Longhorn Liftoff magazine is out and you won't want to miss this one! 🚀 🤘 In this issue: ▶ Robots and Longhorns collide ▶ Quantum sensing from outer space ▶ Faculty, student and research highlights ▶ Spacecraft design students win NASA challenges ▶ Remembering J. It's still #WomensHistoryMonth! Head on over to our Instagram today to check out members of our Women in Aerospace for Leadership and Development (WIALD) student org to get a glimpse into a day in the life of an aerospace/computational woman at the Cockrell School of Engineering - UT Austin: https://lnkd.in/g-NCB7pf UT Center for Space Research #WomenInAerospace #WomenInComputational #WomenInSTEM

This month we're celebrating Texas ASE/EM women who are making history! Today we feature Dr. Lori Magruder's work in the 3D Geospatial Laboratory. This video shows drone footage taken at the UT Center for Space Research out at West Pickle Campus. Magruder says this newest survey will be used with previously collected data for change detection of the vegetation since the recent ice storm here in Texas. #WomensHistoryMonth #TexasEngineering #WhatStartsHere #Drones #Lidar Cockrell School of Engineering - UT Austin

Sending warm wishes to you and your loved ones this holiday season from your Texas ASE/EM family. Stay warm and safe over winter break and we'll see you again in 2023! UT Center for Space Research

Congratulations to Dr. Manuel Rausch on his National Institutes of Health (NIH) #R01 grant to study the #biomechanics of functional tricuspid valve regurgitation – a condition that, if left unchecked, could eventually lead to a more serious heart condition.
