The Rag Blog Fan Club
The Rag Blog (http://theragblog.com) is a non-profit internet newsmagazine produced by activist journalists committed to progressive social change.
Our roots are in the Sixties underground press. The Rag, published in Austin, Texas, from 1966-1977, was one of the earliest and most influential of the Vietnam-era underground papers. Thorne Dreyer, who edits The Rag Blog, was a founding editor of The Rag in 1966, and many of The Rag Blog's contributors are veterans of The Rag, the underground press, and the Sixties New Left.
This NYT Magazine story, published Sunday, provides a chilling perspective against which to consider the ultra-rightwing Netanyahu government's justifications for leveling Gaza and killing as many Palestinians as possible. The recurring thread throughout this deep dive into the decades-long history of the Israeli settler movemen—from Meir Kahane through today's Smotrich/Ben Gvir axis—reveals a deeply theocratic, anti-democratic betrayal of the secular, socialistic ideals that inspired early Zionist dreams for a Jew "homeland."
The Unpunished: How Extremists Took Over Israel After 50 years of failure to stop violence and terrorism against Palestinians by Jewish ultranationalists, lawlessness has become the law.
