Reflecting on 2022-2023 season for GMPP Dive Into The World of Yes, And! Yes, And is a collection of dance performance experiments that place an expanded vision of Black womanhood in the creative process. The project invites us to inhabit inspired realities that reclaim the past, transform the present, and dream new futures into being.

5:30-7 p.m. | Explore Hillwood’s mansion, gardens, greenhouse, and special exhibition Grace of Monaco: Princess in Dior; museum shop and Merriweather To Go open

7 p.m. | Performance begins in the Motor Court

7:15-8 p.m. | Encounter Dance installations throughout the gardens. Choose your own route or feel free to follow a performer on their journey.

8-8:30 p.m. | Performance on the Lunar Lawn

9 p.m. | Hillwood closes

At 6:30 p.m., Friday, Jul 15, artist Vicki Meek will lead a short, conversation in the theater in the Ellen MacNeille Charles Visitor Center. At 8:45 p.m. Saturday, artist Gesel Mason will lead a post-show conversation.

American Sign Language (ASL) Interpretation will be provided at the Saturday, July 16 performance.

PROGRAM GUIDELINES
This program is outdoors. Guests will move throughout the gardens and along garden paths. Please prepare for hot weather.
Additional audio and video content will be accessible by QR code; you may wish to bring headphones.
Consider bringing a blanket or easy-to-carry lawn chair for your journey.
Food and drinks, including beer and wine, will be available for purchase from Merriweather To Go.

Choreographer, performer, educator, and arts facilitator Gesel Mason is artistic director for Gesel Mason Performance Projects associate professor of dance and choreography at the University of Texas at Austin. Mason will deliver the keynote address in Denver, CO on August 17 at 10am.⁠

AUDITION: A TU DANCE PROJECT | CHOREOGRAPHY BY MARCUS JARRELL WILLIS

TU Dance is holding auditions for live presentations and a film creation project this Spring with performances at The O’Shaughnessy in St. Paul, Minnesota on May 13 & 14, 2022. With support from a MSAB Arts Tour Grant, choreographer Marcus Jarrell Willis will be working with a group of dancers for a 9-week rehearsal process to reimagine and expand upon his work Sensible Existence, which was originally created for the TU Dance Company in 2017. This experience will culminate in two live performances as well as the creation of a dance-for-film project that will be shared throughout the State of Minnesota and beyond. For this project, we are seeking dance artists with a vast range of technical versatility. A keen sense of rhythm and articulation of gestural language is essential. Seasoned professionals to emerging dance artists are encouraged to audition. Learn more about Marcus Jarrell Willis.

PROJECT DETAILS:

9 week rehearsal process: March 14- May 14, 2022
Time frame: 9:30am-4:15pm CST Monday- Friday
Tech Week: May 9-14, 2022
Performances: Friday, May 13th & Saturday, May 14th at The O’Shaughnessy, St. Paul, MN
Dancers will be compensated $600/week and hired as independent contractors. Airfare, housing, per diem and local transportation are not provided.

Thursday, December 2 and Friday December 3, 2021
Location: TU Dance Center, 2121 University Ave. W., St. Paul, Minnesota
In-person auditions only. No fee to audition. Travel and housing is not provided.

Research and Development Workshop: 11:45am-4:00pm CST
