I originally put this track together back in 2019, but the beat tape it was on got rejected by the stores (copyright infringement, what else? 😂) and I just left it on the shelf.. but 4 years later, this one always stayed with me, and I wanted to take a crack at remaking it, since I think my mixing skills are much stronger now than they were back then. I breathed new life into the drums and made some other updates - I'm really happy with how this version turned out, and I hope you'll dig it, too!

Bringing some more instrumental hip hop to you with "Wish Upon A Star," a vibey downtempo beat that I thought was a perfect release for the holiday season. I flipped "La La La Wish Upon A Star" by The Manhattans and turned it into a chill, lo-fi style track, and experimented with some funky pitch shifting to replicate vinyl record scratches. I came across a video of F***y (female rock band from the 70's) performing "Last Night I Had A Dream" on YouTube and was blown away by the energy. Such a raw performance. I knew I had to do something with it, and flipping the sample into a hard East Coast hip hop beat worked out better than I could have expected. Finally made it back to DJ class after missing the past few weeks. We were working on a new mixer and learning about effects. I felt like I was looking at the controls of a spaceship 🤣 🚀

I've loved this song since I was a kid. The summer of '97, I was a 12-year old kid in South Philly, and I swear a car drove down my street playing this song at least 2-3 times an hour lol. I got hooked, and the song stayed with me ever since.

It wasn't until I started doing research for my remix that I learned about the history of Freestyle/Latin Hip Hop music. "Freestyle music.. is a form of electronic dance music that emerged in the New York metropolitan area, Philadelphia, and Miami, primarily among Hispanic Americans and Italian Americans in the 1980s." Sooo that probably explains why I heard this song like 50 times a day growing up in the Italian neighborhood of Philly 😂😂😂

You may or may not share the nostalgia for this one, but I hope you enjoy the remix either way 🙏🕺💃
