Both personally and professionally I am tasked with balancing different perspectives and expectations toward common goals and successful outcomes. As a town we must continue to work together across disciplines, within our community and together with our State. For example, linking efforts such as the Complete Streets Plan with resilience planning for roadways and carbon reduction can address pedes

trian safety, walkability and reduce emissions. I believe that in finding the unity within differing agendas we are able to focus on the commonality of our efforts for progress. I strive to increase communication and concentrate on actionable goals and forward planning. I will do so with an empathetic ear and the commitment to stay on task. I am grateful to have the opportunity to raise my family in Barrington and to serve my community. (KATE) Berard

Family: Happily married to Geoff, an incredible partner in all things and wonderful Chiropractor serving the south coast of MA. We have two children: Peter, a rising 2nd grader at Sowams School, a lover of all things baseball and a super kind soul. Vivienne, our free spirited, dancing queen, almost-five year old ready for Kindergarten! We are joined by Benny, aka Springs, our young, three-legged Golden Retriever and Luna, his best friend. Profession: Real Estate Attorney

Volunteer: Barrington Planning Board Member; Director, GPBOR CARE Committee; Barrington Little League

RI Resident: Originally from Westfield, New Jersey, the eldest of five kids. Moved to Boston for law school, met my husband, and slowly made our way over to the Ocean State. We moved to Warren, RI in early 2015 and to Barrington, RI the year before Peter started Kindergarten. Favorite Hobbies: CrossFit, time with friends, watching the Red Sox with my family, time at the beach and kitchen dancing

Why I love Barrington: I am drawn to the neighborhoods. I love the walkability to Sowams School, to the bike path, to the water. I enjoy that the town is filled with so many brilliant minds and dedicated to its children. I am impressed with my neighbors: their kindness and their community involvement. I am proud to be a member of a community that employs thoughtful and dedicated professionals - with whom I have learned, from serving on the Planning Board, to be incredible stewards of our town's resources. I feel grateful for the opportunity to have my children attend Sowams, to play in town athletics, and to make lasting friendships. Why I want to serve: My Mom always told us to keep something, you have to give it away. She was instilling gratitude and sharing the power of giving back and service with us. I grew up watching both her and my Pop-Pop dedicate many hours of their time after work giving back to our community. I found myself wanting to give back to my town in the same way. I was excited to join the Barrington Planning Board and quickly found out that I love it and my skill set suits it. In joining the team of Council Members, I hope to offer a different perspective, add another female voice, and use my skills to contribute thoughtful discourse to our town's management. I love to ask questions and find common links. I am empathetic but hope to keep emotion out of the policies. I would love to see our Town focus on attainable and actionable goals while planning adequately for our future infrastructure and sea rise mitigation needs.
