What elected officials do???????🤔
Knowing what is on the ballot is as important as voting. During this election season, we will share the responsibilities of each office. In a series we call. “ What do your elected officials do?
The BESE Board is composed of 11 members: eight elected by the citizens of Louisiana's eight BESE districts, and three appointed by the governor of Louisiana and three appointed by the governor of Louisiana to represent the state at-large. Together, these members adopt and enact policies governing the elementary and secondary schools of Louisiana.
The Louisiana State Board of Elementary and Secondary Education was established by the Louisiana Constitution with the responsibility for governing all Louisiana public schools within the following categories:
* Public elementary schools
* Public secondary schools (middle and high schools)
* Educational units in the state’s correctional institutions and mental facilities (Special School District)

BESE is on the ballot this election cycle. The people that are running have authority over things like teacher pay, charter school administration, and administration of the school food service program.
Some districts are running unopposed and some have several candidates runnings. Remember an informed voter is a powerful voter.💙💛
