Based on the renowned novel by Muriel Spark, THE PRIME OF MISS JEAN BRODIE is the story of a vivacious, and somewhat histrionic, Scottish teacher in an all-girls school in the 1930s, confirmed in her belief that she is "in her prime". Over the course of eight years, Miss Brodie takes her chosen set of girls into her world and mind, lecturing them on art, romance, men, culture and politics. As we get to know Miss Brodie, we soon discover the danger of her tempestuous personality, as she blatantly abuses her power, engages in affairs with her co-workers, and lies her way through the world to achieve her aims. When she can no longer commit to her relationships, she grooms her schoolgirls as replacements for her former lovers. Brodie uses all her knowledge, charm, and cleverness to make herself all but untouchable to her superiors, and becomes a nearly dictatorial force in their lives. But like her fascist idols, betrayal is common in the oppressed, and Miss Brodie is ultimately undone by one of her own set.
THE PRIME OF MISS JEAN BRODIE is a thrilling tale of influence, intrigue, and betrayal. This captivating performance is one that is sure to leave audiences reflecting on their own childhoods and teachers, and questioning just how much influence they've allowed those mentors on their own lives, for better or worse.
THE PRIME OF MISS JEAN BRODIE will offer two reduced price pre-opening performances. There is a Pay-What-You-Can Performance on Wednesday, February 13th with a recommended minimum donation of $10. Additionally, there will be a Sneak Preview on Thursday, February 14th, which
Swine Palace Presents: Hip Hop Shrew
SWINE PALACE produces an inaugural Summer Festival, featuring:
THE TAMING OF THE SHREW, by William Shakespeare and directed by Swine Palace Artistic Director George Judy, is a family friendly, 70 rockin' minutes version of Shakespeare's timeless battle of the sexes. Modern adaptations of the story range from the TV series and film, "10 Things I Hate About You," to the hit musical, "Kiss Me Kate." Swine Palace's SHREW will result in a high-energy, entertaining production with commedia dell'arte elements, as the wildly spirited Kate and machismo-driven Petruchio scream, fight and woo their way into one another's heart. Swine Palace ensemble member Jenny Ballard will play the iconic role of Kate, and her enthusiasm is noted, "I directed the play in 2006, and was so jealous of the actress playing Kate because I wanted to be up there, exploring all of the complexities that make up her character."
