INTRODUCTION TO MUSIC THEORY & COMPOSITION

With a focus on chord function and analysis as well as strong melodic writing, we will learn to write several short compositions throughout this class. We will look at examples ranging from Bach and Beethoven to current film, game and pop music. Each week we will have a short composition assignment, and we will also have occasional chord analysis worksheets. If you want to learn how to write your own music while gaining a strong understanding of music theory, this course is for you!

Rose City Music Academy is hiring a cello teacher for the West Side (Catlin Gabel School and other locations). Pay starts at $45 for private lessons, and current hours are 3:30-7pm, with more available. Please email your resume to [email protected]

A day in the life of our camp. Playing circle ninja (like cricket, I could not figure out the rules of this game even after watching it several times😂), art and more art, and an afternoon piano class with Ms. Goodenberger.

Are you or do you own a responsible teen aged 14+? We could use one more counselor to help at our camp next week. Musical experience is not necessary. 8:45-3:15 Monday through Friday at the Catlin Gabel School July 15-19th. Here's our counselor Anna assisting Mr. Jimenez in Rhythm Games class. Our recitals last week were so wonderful- congratulations to each brave performer. We love our relationship with West Hills Senior Residence and playing for the community there. They rave about you every time, musicians!

Do you have a summer camp worked out yet? We are offering two weeks this summer, which is our eleventh year doing camp! July 8th and July 15th 9-3pm Monday-Friday at the Catlin Gabel School. Perfect for beginners through intensive chamber camp musicians. Violin, Viola, Cello, Guitar, Piano, Voice and more!
