It's been a Busy week for the Whatcom Young Republicans!
As promised, we've got a short recap of the weekend starting at the Rally for Reichert. I want to take a second to thank everyone who showed up to hear from the Candidates and pitched in to make it an awesome event, as well as thank the candidates for taking the time out of your busy campaign schedules to join us!

Saturday was a busy day with a fundraiser hosted by John Huntley (Mills Electric) and Ashley Butenschoen (Chair, Whatcom YRs) followed by Freedom Fest by Let's Go Washington, the machine behind the amazing initiatives that will be on your ballot this November!!

And that's a wrap at the Northwest Washington Fair!
We had a full 10 days of educating and talking to so many different people.
We were able to talk about our mission as Young Republicans, the amazing initiatives from Let's Go Washington, and all of our candidates like Dave Reichert For Governor, Pete Serrano for Attorney General, Dr Raul Garcia for US Senate, as well as local candidates like Kamal For Us All, and Ray Pelleti.

Thank you to everyone who came and helped work at the booth, we couldn't have done it without you!💪

We were so honored to host Dave Reichert, and Pete Serrano around the fair this year. We enjoyed being able to give so many people the opportunity to meet them and ask questions to these candidates.👏

🚨🚨The People’s Initiative to Lower County Property Taxes is Under Attack!🚨🚨
The County Council has put forth a resolution requesting Whatcom County Superior Court issue a declaratory judgment to determine whether Initiative 2024-01 is procedurally invalid.
The People’s Initiative to lower county property taxes is under attack!

With 9833 signatures turned in and certified by the auditor, we cannot allow the council to set a dangerous precedent.

This council had no problem putting Proposition 5 on the ballot, even when it wasn’t legally implementable.

This resolution isn't democracy in action; it's a violation of voters' rights. The voters have spoken—they want the right to choose.

But the council is seeking to take that right away by any means necessary. Such actions only serve to erode trust in local government, undermine the important work of both the auditor's office and the prosecuting attorney’s office, and sow division within our community.
This resolution is not about safeguarding the people; it's about the council standing up for a proposition they backed in 2022, which they are not allowed to do. We must demand that they take action on the three options before them:

1. Adopt the initiative.
2. Do nothing.
3. Write their own ballot measure.

Anything more is a violation and an abuse of power. This is a call to action. We need all hands on deck—everyone in the council chambers tonight!
Your rights are being stripped from you. It's up to us to hold our elected officials accountable and ensure that our democratic principles are upheld. Together, we can protect the integrity of our local government and the rights of every voter.

Today, remember the sacrifices that were made so we can sleep in peace. Remember the lives. The sons and daughters, the father's, the brothers, who gave their lives just so we can call this beautiful land our home. Don't let the craziness of the world distract from the truth that is our freedom. We must remember it every day and fight for it every day.

As Ronald Reagan said, freedom is never more then one generation away from extinction.
So let's protect that freedom regardless of the trails that come along the way.

Today is the third and final day of the Washington State Republican Party Convention. Regardless of the convention outcome, there’s one thing that was well communicated: the people of Washington State want change.

But sometimes we forget to take a step back and look at the big picture of who can really win in Washington State, and beat Bob Ferguson.

Wether or not we agree on who the best person is to do this, we need to come together as Republicans and unite. We need to work together to choose the candidate who has the resources and tools to win this race, to fix what’s broken, and make it to Olympia to represent us all.
