Latrodectus elegans juvenile female hopefully I will have some babies in the next month or so.
Baby Brown Recluses just hatched.
Believe it or not all of these brown widows are from the exact same typical looking parents. The really dark ones are rare but I have been getting one or two per clutch. Going to hold them back and see if I can line breed them.
Good news everyone! The little white widow male figured it out!
Brown recluse spiders are known for their reclusive nature and preference for living in areas where humans are not present, such as attics, basements, and sheds.
When disturbed, they will attempt to escape rather than bite. Some studies have shown that brown recluse spider bites may not be able to puncture human skin without external pressure, and many online images of necrotic wounds are misdiagnosed as brown recluse bites.
These spiders are found primarily in the south-central United States, with rare instances of them being transported to new locations outside their range.
They do possess medically significant venom and you do need to be cautious if you share their habitat, however a lot of the information online is grossly exaggerated or just plain wrong.
Loxosceles reclusa babies will be hatching in a couple weeks. Not the most in demand species but they are definitely cool.
Well, the little guy made it through the night. I didn't witness anything but then hanging out together is a good sign. Fingers crossed for some white widow babies in the near future.
Pairing up my white widows tonight.
In case anyone wants to watch with me
Latrodectus Pallidus the White Widow
I'm super excited about this Latrodectus pallidus pairing. One more molt for this little guy and he will be introduced to this pretty lady. fingers crossed for some white widow babies this summer
Beautiful dark brown widow. Very underrated in the hobby but they have incredible variety in color forms even among sac mates.
Check out this awesome lightning bolt pattern on this Latrodectus variolus.
3 packages going out today, include one for display animals at the WVU Insect Zoo. This makes the 4th educational institution that I have provided animals for. I am thrilled that my animals can help educate and ease the fear of spiders
Oops I got my notification that this sac needed pulled last night (day 27). Took me almost an hour but I got them all out and into vials.
Posting this to see if anyone can help, a Facebook friend just had someone get stung by this in Kazakhstan. Can anyone help ID?
So I snagged a couple of these White Widows while I had the chance... Does anyone know if any males or potentially gravid females came in with this import?
Two packages of spiders going to new homes today!
Well, unfortunately my female Latrodectus tredecimguttatus died last night. Not sure what happened she stopped eating after her last molt. She was only about 4 months old so I'm not sure what happened
Brown recluses are a really misunderstood species. They are very unlikely to bite unless they are being physically pressed against the skin. Even if someone is bitten very bites result in any real damage. They tend to get the blame for a lot of bacterial infections, unfortunately.
Brown recluse
One of my most aggressive eaters is this C. versicolor. Beautiful species.
I can't get over how cute these little guys are.
Wild L. variolus photographed and returned to her web
Added some Sicarius thomisoides to the collection! Breeding attempts won't be till next year though... anyone with males or females out there?
The curly hair tarantula babies are starting to look like little spiders. look at how fuzzy they are.
