How does internal bleach work? Discolored teeth can occur spontaneously or slowly over time, and they can be caused by various reasons. Those one tooth wonders that are drastically different than the rest happen to always present themselves as necrotic. Necrotic teeth means that the tooth is dead and it’s nerve is damaged. Necrotic teeth can occur mainly from trauma, like a soccer ⚽️ ball to the mouth, or even a wonky bite (like a tooth in cross bite ) because a poor bite impacts a particular tooth with so much force it ultimately affects its nerve. Some blood and proteins from the nerve canal can leek into the tooth, and much like a dark scab, the inside of the tooth starts taking on a darkened appearance. These teeth require a root canal (no root canals do not hurt when done properly most patients take a nap or watch TV during the treatment!) Followed by placement of a specific medicament made for internal bleaching. The term walking bleach is coined as an alternative name for internal bleaching, because once the bleaching medication is placed the patient does not return for 7 to 10 days to have it removed, during that time the tooth is slowly (sometimes quickly) reverting back to its normal color. I have my own little cocktail and treatment modality for this treatment that I picked up over the years having done hundreds of cases of these to date!
