Phase 4 at James Hardie is shaping up and our team is working hard despite the heat!

The project, located in Prattville, AL, includes a 232,000-square-foot addition to the existing facility with concrete, PEMB, MEPs, and interior office finishes.

Dunn Building Company has once again received the Platinum STEP Award, as well as the Innovation Award for our Risk Calculator, and we were named Safe Day Gold Award Winner from Associated Builders & Contractors. ABC's Safe Day Awards showcase companies that have outstanding corporate Safety & Health plans and exhibit superior safety initiatives. We take pride in our team’s dedication to safety!

Safety Director Stephanie O’Melia, Safety Manager Anthony Mitchell, SR. Project Manager Owen Trotter, and HR Generalist Madison Rhodes accepted the awards at the Annual Award Celebration at The Club.

We are excited to announce that Our Quality Director Seth Collins is the recipient of this year's Metal Building Contractors and Erectors Association Robert & Beverly Ketenbrink Service Award known as the “Oil Can Award”. This award recognizes service to the metal building industry and their contributions to MBCEA and MBI.

Seth is a member of the MBCEA’s Metal Buildings Curriculum Committee that is developing a nationally standardized Metal Building System Assembler training program through NCCER. He also serves on the MBCEA Board, the MBCEA Technical Committee, the Metal Building Manufacturers Association (MBMA) BIM Task Group, and for the last two years, he has been MBCEA’s representative for the MBMA Research Symposiums.

Here at Dunn, among other things, Seth manages our IAS AC478 Accreditation and works with our suppliers like Varco Pruden to help develop training videos openly accessible through platforms like YouTube. He also developed our Metal Building training programs and manages the programs for incoming recent high school graduates, which are partially funded through grants from Alabama CICT.

We are glad to have Seth on our team!

Dunn’s 15th Annual Golf Tournament was a HUGE success! With the help of our teams and sponsors, we were able to present a check for $13,000 this year to Firehouse Shelter, bringing the total to over $143,000 since we started our Annual Golf Tournaments. Without sponsors and teams, this would not be possible!

While visiting Walker County Center of Technology this week for OSHA 10 training, Anthony Mitchell, DBC Senior Safety Manager, and Madison Rhodes, DBC HR Generalist, ran into a couple of familiar faces. Kris Eckroth (son of Dunn’s Jimmie Eckroth) and Ethan McDonald (son of Dunn’s Dana McDonald). Both attend Walker County Center of Technology for welding.

A special thanks to Anthony Mitchell for spending time with the next generation of craft workers and teaching this OSHA class.

One of Dunn’s Quality Management procedures is our internal pre-punch processes. Our management team is working through this on the +1,500 cubic yard Slab Grinder Foundation in Calvert, AL. The anchor bolt installation was spot on, which in turn required no changes to the IFC drawings. The rubbing out of the surfaces is almost complete, leaving only the owner punch walk. Our local intern got in on some of the action. Awesome work team…it looks great!!

We've broken ground and the new Truckworx location in Huntsville is now underway! Truckworx is steadily increasing its market footprint alongside the growth of the Huntsville area, and we are thrilled to partner with them and be part of this project!

Dunn Building Company, LLC was awarded a construction craft training grant for the month of March!

Last week, crews in the Gulf Coast area did a great job on this complex concrete foundation placement that included over 500 anchor bolts. Here’s to good weather and finishing the next few pours!

We are excited to partner with Hwashin Georgia Corporation as they embark on the development of their state-of-the-art facility in Dublin, GA. This endeavor encompasses various buildings dedicated to warehousing, fabrication, painting, and logistics, specifically tailored to cater to the fast-growing electric vehicle market. This collaboration signifies a significant stride towards advancing automotive technology and infrastructure in the region. We were honored to celebrate the groundbreaking with them last Friday, marking the beginning of an exciting journey ahead.

Dunn Building was recently subcontracted by White-Spunner Construction to furnish and install a 33,800 square-foot PEMB hangar and hangar door panel sheeting in Fairhope, AL!

Ending Women in Construction Week with International Women’s Day! Here’s to the strong, resilient, hard-working women who are shaping the future of the industry and shattering stereotypes!

Who knew metal buildings could be so much fun?! Dunn's Andrew Edwards, Jeff Dixon, Craig Fowler (not pictured), Daniel Mosley, wife Lee Mosley, and Varco Pruden Buildings's District Manager Steve Deaton and wife Tracy enjoy VP's 2024 Converge (conference of leading PEMB builders) and ham it up at the Havana Night celebration in Miami last Thursday. Dunn received awards for some of the highest sales volumes nationwide in 2023 and its Hall of Fame selection for its Northwest Shoals Airport Hangar project.
