Girlhood Redefined, a web archive and exhibition project by Avrie Allen in collaboration with the Kinsey Institute, has its closing reception tonight from 6–8PM in the Tangent Gallery! The show aims to challenge 20th century definitions of girlhood written by men, and ultimately revolves around a survey found at girlhood.is. “Girlhood Redefined not only seeks to showcase the multiplicity of girlhood, but is an attempt to think through what it means to create knowledge and collective subjectivity from a feminist perspective.”—Avrie Allen The Tangent Gallery is in the Fine Arts Building 104 & 105, down the hall from the Grunwald Gallery. In addition to Girlhood Redefined, the Grunwald Gallery will be holding the BFA opening reception from 6–8PM. Fine Arts is the place to be this Friday! The first of many sneak peaks into the 2024 Indiana University BA Fashion Showcase! “The collection plays with the silhouette of traditional denim garments. The idea is to turn the lived-in jeans into flowing organic pieces. As someone going into field, I struggle with the idea of overconsumption in the fashion world and I fully support the push to make fashion creation a more sustainable process. The jeans I used were going to be thrown away, and now have a new life in a revitalized silhouette”. Check out MK and others on Thursday, April 11, from 6-8 pm! #CountDowntoBAFashionShow

McKinney Visiting Artist David Hytone, who offers a public lecture Friday evening (10/27) at 5 pm in FA 015, worked with Eskenazi painting students in the studio Thursday night. “I love the abstraction of it!" said student Estella Borden. "As someone who’s a little more literal with their artwork, this is really good practice in mental abstraction! It’s pretty valuable when you want to learn how to think outside the box.”

“I like meeting prospective families and students and sharing the opportunities that the Eskenazi School has given me. My favorite class at IU was history of fashion because it had a great professor, and I loved learning about the historical background of clothing trends. I also liked printmaking because I enjoyed learning a new art form, and I got to keep all my projects. My favorite memory at IU was studying abroad in Barcelona for a semester." - Student Ambassador Claire Comfort is a senior studying Fashion Design and Political Science.

"I love being an ambassador because I can tell prospective students all about the program + how it has helped me grow so much as a designer. Our school teaches that design unites humanity, and it has become clear how important this idea is in the design world. Any human-centered design has so many facets to study, which is exciting to young people like us who are on the verge of entering the field. My favorite classes have been the architecture, furniture + interiors history class, the commercial office studio, and the design methods class. They have all inspired me to expand my design thinking and become passionate about architectural styles/history. I also love any hands-on fine art studio, such as the color class. Right now, I'm taking a fibers studio, and I'm so excited!" Student Ambassador Juliette Castagna is a junior studying Interior Design and minoring in Marketing.

“I love sharing my love for IU and my passion for the Eskenazi programs. I enjoy sharing my journey through college with students while expressing the impact that IU has made on me and my future career. My favorite classes were Global Sourcing, Manufacturing & Quality Analysis, and Brand Management & Advertising. Some of my fondest moments at IU were competing in the NRF Student Challenge, Watching IU beat Purdue at Assembly Hall and making some of my best friends from my Merchandising program.” - Student Ambassador Neely Branham is a Senior studying Apparel Merchandising and Marketing.

Hi, my name is Anna Kubat, and I'm a junior studying Interior Design with a minor in Educational Studies! I love being an ambassador because it gives me a chance to meet new people and show incoming students what it means to be an Eskenazi student. My favorite class was, hands down, the Creative Core: Color class. I wish I could take that class over and over again!

"People-centered design is something that may seem like a given in the design discipline, but even just a quick look at the world around you will reveal that oftentimes that is not the case. "I’m very grateful that the Comprehensive Design program here at IU stresses this people-centered approach. My experience in these classes has revolutionized how I think about the world around me. "My favorite class in the Eskenazi school was a screen printing and letterpress class. Going into it, I was a little worried because I had never done anything like it before, but it grew to become my favorite class I’ve taken! My instructors were amazing, and I enjoyed learning how to do something new, even if it wasn’t directly related to what I was studying. My favorite parts of that course were learning how to use the letter presses that IU has and learning how to hand bind books. "I’ve enjoyed working as an ambassador for the Eskenazi School for many reasons, but my favorite part is interacting with prospective students. Whether it be in information sessions, one-on-one meetings, or by giving tours, I love meeting people and sharing my experiences at IU. It’s a great way to give back to the school that has given me so many great opportunities." - Student Ambassador Nate Ramsey is a senior studying Comprehensive Design with a minor in Urban Development and Planning
