Did you know butterflies in South Carolina are active from early spring until late fall frost! By following a few simple steps your yard can attract these flying beauties and many other pollinators. Because flowers are the primary nectar source it makes sense that flower color and shape play an important role. Having a mixture of plants that are in bloom in a variety of color’s throughout the insects active period will attract butterflies all season long. Our native butterflies 🦋 seem to prefer plants that have pink, red, yellow, or orange flowers. Some amazing plants are the Passion Vine, Milkweed, Black Cherry or Sweetbay. Other attractor plants are Cone Flower, Black-eyes Susan, Lantana, Butterfly Bush, or Bottle Brush Tree! We had so much fun today at the STEAM Festival! We read tons of tree rings, discovered their mysteries, did math to find their ages, and got creative with our Kandinsky Circles.
