The Golf Paradigm

A Whole-In-One approach to a better game. The Golf Paradigm is a philosophy. Fitting deals with clubs and putters. Integration.

A philosophy that encompasses improvement in a golfers game based on improving the whole by addressing each of the parts. Each part is an entity to itself to include; mechanics, fitting, mental, fitness and integration. Mechanics deals with the swing mechanics as well as the biomechanics of the body and their movements. It is important that these movements are in harmony with one another so the sw

Just a few upgrades to this swing with changes in the setup.

P3 more depth with the shaft not so laid off. Allowed for improvements throughout the rest of the swing. Such as…

P6 HUGE difference here. Before he had major issues with low trajectory and missing left (surprise). AFTER, two changes were in the 1) stronger lead hand grip and 2) bending of the trail arm allowing it to be lower than the lead, and voila, straighter, 3x the traj, AND 10-12 yds more distance.

Just a few adjustments to this students set up. Which one do you think went low left and which one produced high draws, with 12 more yards of carry?

Always nice to get notes from students, especially when they play well (and WIN!).
Great getting this type of feedback and having an idea of what worked, and didn’t, so the growth can continue in their game, and our teaching/coaching.

The better the player the smaller the window to see what’s causing issues. This golfer plays at a 0-3 hcp and was having issues with direction control and trajectory with a 7I was killing midgets at 100 yards. Getting him to understand the pivot; turning and pressure shifts, allowed him to improve direction, trajectory, and increase distance.
Directional control was the result of him eliminating the need to time impact with his hands. The more efficient, and larger pivot, allowed his body to do the work it’s intended to do while allowing the hands to be more passive (compared to what he was used to. Understanding his pivot was a front post played a large role in that.
The improved turn, of both the pelvis, chest and shoulders slowed him to come into impact more shallow. This in addition to being able to stay behind the ball (first he had to get there) tripled his trajectory. He now has a chance to hold the green and stop it hear the hole.
The improved turn (bigger) and efficient pressure shift allowed the body to ‘unwind’ better. When that happens and the body parts are trying to realign to each other- pelvis leads, chest plays catch up, and the arms trying to get back in front of the chest, allowed him to have a catapult effect and the result was increased swing speed without trying to swing faster.
All in all a great lesson for both teacher and student.

Amazing what happens when a students thought process changes and has a better understanding of what happens in the swing vs what they think should happen 🧐
This student came in hitting shots heavy and assumed he was early extending too much. Not surprising since ‘early extension’ is used far too often in todays golf world. But it was his lack of pivot and pressure shift that caused him to pull out of his shots coming into impact, the head moving away from the target, that bottomed out his path too soon and hit shots ‘fat’.
Once he understood that he needed to shift his pressure into his trail foot (the heel for his ‘feel’) and how to do that everything changed. Low hooks, fat shots or weak bleeders right quickly turned into flush, higher and longer shots (due to longer hand path and better efficiency) that flew straight at the 🎯.
And this is only his first lesson. Sky is the limit and we’re anxious to go along for the ride.

One of the best parts of teaching/coaching is seeing students making big improvements and their game going to a new level. Not to mention the joy it brings them and us as coaches
putting in the work and seeing the benefits. Amazing how quickly he adapted to an improved pivot. Trail hip going up and behind, lead shoulder coming down and towards him on the take away allowed for a better hand path. Much better depth in relation to the ball, ball starting on target line (instead of left) and most importantly limited to zero back or hip discomfort.
Some homework to develop the new ‘feel’ but lots of great things coming his way this season.

Trying to steal a little bit of voodoo stick magic today to give a visual of hand path direction. No surprise how well it worked.

SPINE ANGLES: a) Primary & b) Secondary - What's the difference and why should you care? - https://mailchi.mp/09a1b34f5a1c/spine-angles

18/10/2022

Your spine angle can and will play a major role in whether you hit the ball how you want to or whether you struggle. It plays a big part in getting the club swinging on the proper path.

Two of the angles the spine when setting up and swinging are a) Primary Spine Angle and b) Secondary Spine Angle.

Primary - how much forward lean, or bend you have towards the ball. Also referred to as flexion. This would be how much forward bend you have off of vertical. Think of standing upright against a wall then bending forward as if you were bowing to someone.

Secondary - how much your spine tilts away from the target (to the right for right handlers and left for left handlers).

The club your using will determine the width of your stance (wider stance for longer clubs, narrow for shorter clubs) and thus whether you have more tilting or less. If you’re hitting a wedge your stance will be more narrow, primary angle more (because the club is shorter), and secondary angle less. Vice versa when using a driver - longer club = more upright primary angle (you’re not leaning forward as much due to the clubs length), wider stance (to support the bigger/longer swing), and more secondary tilt.

How To…
Primary Angle
Watch our video on posture -
1) Stand erect and place your hands, palm down on your thighs.
2) Lean forward, allowing the rear end to move behind you as the head moves forward, as the hands slide down your thighs.
3) When the tips of the middle fingers touch the top of the knee caps you know you’re in the proper Primary Angle; ie posture.

Secondary Angle
1) Stand with the appropriate stance width for the club being used.
2) Using the club you’re going to hit, place the club head under your chin and allow it to hang vertically so the grip falls between your legs, in the middle of the stance.
3) tilt away from the target until the grip of the club touches the inside of the lead leg knee.

Use this simple exercise to check your setup and ensure your swing path is the way you want it and you can stop coming over the top.
