Here at LWL, play is utilized to teach and reinforce different skills in each and every session. Not only does play make learning skills more entertaining but it also helps with generalization of skills into settings outside of the therapeutic setting !

Early Intervention helps children develop life skills right out the gate. It helps to build a strong foundation, with effects that last a lifetime. Birth to age 3 is a time of rapid development and growth. If children have a developmental delay or disorder, these early years are the ideal time for intervention.

Structure and consistency play a key role in the everyday lives of individuals with Autism. With possible repetitive patterns of behaviors, preferred activities and hobbies can help individuals with Autism bring stability and comfort into their lives. Below are some benefits that highlight the importance of structure and consistency for individuals diagnosed with Autism.
1: Reducing Stress:
When regimented to a schedule or routine, it can provide relief from stress and anxiety about what’s to come next. When individuals with Autism grow more familiar with their environment and expectations, routines help navigate their lives with less worry and more confidence.
2: Improve Cooperation and Motivation:
When individuals with Autism are secure and safe, stress levels are lowered.
3: Creates an Environment of Security and Comfort:
For individuals with Autism it can be difficult to make sense of new environments , events, and sometimes sounds. Creating a secure environment helps to establish order enabling individuals to thrive.
4: Encourages a Sense of Ownership Over The Day:
Accomplishments should always feel rewarding . Celebrate working through schedule changes, these are huge goals and milestones.
5: Builds Stronger Caregiver-Child Connections:
As feelings of security and comfort arise, closer connection with caregivers and others is created.
6: Helping With Learning:
Being introduced to a new environment can be stressful and it can be difficult to adjust. Being comfortable in the new routine fosters higher focus and more successful therapy/school days, leading to an increase in learning. Practice transitioning to new environments together and before the change begins.
