Rural Property Development -
Bonners Ferry, ID
Customer has a new construction with a few issues, an approach that slopes toward the house, a side yard that has not been properly graded and an eroded, off camber trail that goes down to the lower part of his property that he wanted improved. No problem. Dug out the hump about 16” (that the equipment is parked on in the first picture) and moved that material into the dip I was standing in where I took that pic from. Rolled out some fabric and rocked it. Smoothed out the side yard, removed some brush, rocks, and trees to expand its useable area, covered it in some nice top soil. Then made a much nicer trail to the lower part of the property.
Here’s a recent job we completed with Brian Hawes at Liberty Republic Electric, bringing power and water to a few rv sites. I trenched 5’ deep in some very rocky ground, bedded all the poly and backfilled to the height the electrical needed to be. Brian ran all the electrical in conduit and we then bedded that before backfilling and capping the whole area in a new layer of gravel. I had to remove a few stubborn stumps and avoid a fiber optic line in the direct path but it all went smooth and came out great! I hauled all the material for this job from a new pit and the company has material all over north Idaho so this was a huge step in helping me provide the area with affordable hauling and materials for these jobs.
Before and after. On to the next one!
Today was productive! Wrapped up our rock wall/garden bed and threw down some 3/4” crushed rock on the driveway to finish off the clean up. Brought the equipment home. Delivered some mulch to a new customer up by Goodgrief (for those of you not from around here, yes that’s the name of a small community up by the Canadian border that just so happens to have my favorite restaurant around!), then went to town and got a load of drain rock and got that delivered. This is some absolutely beautiful country to drive around in for the day.
Rock wall project coming along nicely. Day 1 we mobilized all the equipment and materials to the job site, dug the footing, laid in the fabric, did some compaction on the base layer, and started picking rocks from all over the customers yard. Day two was about what you’d expect, we started placing boulders! We are backfilling on both sides of our fabric with 1”-2” crushed granite. It’s a clean stone that interlocks nicely while still draining well. It makes a fantastic foundation for the following layers of boulders. Today was day 3 and my ground guy was busy with other things so I was on my own! Got a lot more boulders placed and back filled and sourced more boulders! The customers have expanded the scope of the original design so more rock and boulders were needed. Should wrap it up next week!
Today was an absolutely beautiful day up here in North Idaho! I was happy to be outside! Went up toward Eastport to start a rock retaining wall for a new customer. I’ll post progress pics tomorrow but here’s how the day started!
Did a gravel job today outside of Sagle. It was near Garfield bay and had one of the best views I’ve seen so far while ”working”. The cliff side road was narrow, had low hanging branches and a few power lines I had to avoid while spreading, it was full of potholes, and had large rocks that had been exposed from erosion creating lots of big bumps! It was also a dead end with no decent spot to turn a dump truck around. Luckily my truck is short wheelbase and we managed. 5 loads spread and then smoothed out with the skidsteer was all she wrote! Home in time for dinner!
