Interacting with the Ground
The same relationship exists for a performer and the ground. Learn how to relate to the ground more naturally, taking advantage of the support for dynamic movement it offers! I will be digging into this on Thursday, January 18th 12-3pm EST https://voicestudycentre.com/short-courses/becoming-grounded-awareness-movement-in-the-voice-studio-with-vanessa-mulvey/

And finally iteration 3 We practiced inhibition, awareness while building community and having fun πŸ€ΈπŸΌβ€β™€οΈπŸ€ΈπŸ½πŸ€ΈπŸ½β€β™‚οΈπŸ€ͺ

More fun and games to wake up the mind and have fun in Body Mapping 2 last night. Love this group!

One of our recent warm ups in Body Mapping 1 & 2 class was balloon volleyball. This guy everyone moving and required awareness to keep the balloons off of the floor. Thanks to Evan Beyer for the idea. πŸ”₯ New England Conservatory #bodymapping #movementmatters #musician

I love learning lessons in activities that inform my playing and teaching! Here's a look at one such lesson from a Sunday with Parkour Generations Boston. The Big Book of Sight Reading Duets is out! Mountain Peak Music. Order your copy today https://www.mountainpeakmusic.com/big-book-of-sight-reading-duets-for-flute-100-sight-reading-challenges-for-you-and-a-friend/ Thanks to Peter Breton for collaborating in some training! Hey - join me for Parkour for more great lessons and to face fear that all informs being a musician! https://pkgenboston.com/

After Covid I changed the format of my classes and began starting each Body Mapping class with a game. Many of the games I learned at Parkour. I did this to build community and get my musicians having FUN! Last night we did reaction time training. An important part of being a collaborative musician. We can improve our reaction time with games like this. #bodymapping #musician #playing New England Conservatory

Group plays are part of every class. I feel it is so important to explore a concept in the process of music making. Here we are in week 2 exploring the senses. It’s fantastic to have instrumentalists and singers and even conductors together to learn from one another. New England Conservatory Association for Body Mapping Education

Spring semester has started! Week 1 we mapped the spine and actually assembled the vertebrae intona complete spine. It is really informative to get hands on models of the bones and see how they relate to each other. New England Conservatory Association for Body Mapping Education

Sight reading with someone else puts you on the spot, adds accountability and support for sight reading practice. What are you waiting for? Friends don't let friends sight read alone! Sight Reading Fun!

Fear of Sight Reading? Grab the Big Book of Sight Reading Duets to conquer your fear with a friend. Not just a flute friend - bassoon, oboe, and clarinet friends can join you too! https://www.mountainpeakmusic.com/big-book-of-sight-reading-duets-for-flute-100-sight-reading-challenges-for-you-and-a-friend/ @mountainpeakmusic @longyschoolofmusic @newenglandconservatory @associationforbodymapingeducation. #flutist #musician

100 Unique Sight Reading Duets for Flutes = 200 sight reading opportunities. But wait... play with an oboe = 200 more opportunities. Play with a clarinet = 200 more. Play with bassoon = 200 more!! That's 800 sight reading opportunities! https://www.mountainpeakmusic.com/big-book-of-sight-reading-duets-for-flute-100-sight-reading-challenges-for-you-and-a-friend/ #mountainpeakmusic #flute #musician

Modeling the movements of breathing in groups. This is from a few weeks back. Bringing the movements to life with models created by groups of students was a powerful experience. New England Conservatory

More FUN!!!!

At the beginning of every BMg class we start with a game to wake up the brain, challenge awareness and have fun! Yes, fun! Tonight we did a fun partner game that took awareness, mental flexibility and inhibition. I LOVE starting classes like this. It builds community among class members and gets us having fun which should be a part of music-making imho. New England Conservatory #bodymapping #musician #movementmatters

Play is SO POWERFUL! I have been integrating it into all of my teaching and leadership. I especially love getting adults to play games, like rock, paper scissors. When is the last time you played? #bodymapping #parkour #play #musician

A stroke of inspiration hit me as I was working on writing a book! Read about how I faced a fear... I have been thinking a lot about fear lately. Well, not just thinking, experiencing fear. Something interesting is emerging, I am noticing the fear early. I am recognizing the narratives it tells me and I am not getting sucked into the fear spirals my mind creates. Not a perfect science but it is interesting, new and empowering. https://vanessamulvey.substack.com/p/fear-spirals-and-news

Integrating the parts back into a whole is what this rolling movement is about. I learned this from Drew Ricciardi of @themonkeybody. Enjoy! http://ow.ly/IgVh50ECyis
