📢 Shout-out to Megan Thompson-Munson, Jen Kay, & INSTAARite Bradley Markle for their new study of how Greenland's firn responds to temperature changes. ICYDK, firn is the porous transitional material between ❄️ fresh snow & 🧊 glacial ice. Go team! 🙌🏽

A new CIRES and -led study found Greenland's "firn" - the spongy layer between ice and snow - is more sensitive to warming than cooling. The paper was led by CIRES and PhD graduate and CIRES Fellow Read the story: https://cires.colorado.edu/news/warming-has-more-impact-cooling-greenlands-firn

The redpoll finch saga: How two bird species just became one 07/18/2024

🐦+🐦‍⬛=🐦?
2 bird species just became 1?

Based in part on a 2021 Nature Comms publication led by the Taylor Lab at the University of Colorado Boulder, the American Ornithological Society has officially lumped 2 redpoll finch species. Despite their different looks, few genetic differences exist between them

The redpoll finch saga: How two bird species just became one The American Ornithological Society reclassified two previously distinct species of finch as one, based on genetic research by CU Boulder scientists. The move knocks one name off birders’ “life list” and raises questions about what a species really is.
