One in three seniors has some form of vision-reducing eye disease by age 65. Changes to vision and concerns about eye health can happen rapidly for older adults. Seniors should get a vision test once a year and should always follow a doctor's recommendations on treatment plans.
Our trusted team at Comfort Keepers can help if someone is experiencing changes in their vision, or wants to build healthy habits. Our caregivers can assist with meal prep, medication reminders, and can support physician-prescribed exercise regimens and diets. Our goal is to see that clients have the means to find the joy and happiness in each day, regardless of age or acuity.

Every 11 seconds, and older adult is treated in the ER for injuries resulting from a fall. About 80% of these falls happen in the bathroom.
To prevent falls, try these helpful tools and products to help:
- Install grab bars or a tension pole
- Use a shower chair
- Use a bath transfer bench
- Add non-slip mats
- Install grab bars for standing or sitting
There are plenty of more ways to keep your loved one safe. Having a Comfort Keeper by their side will help cut down falls tremendously.
It is always difficult when a loved one has Alzheimer's disease. When trying to communicate with seniors dealing with Alzheimer's, try to remain positive even in the face of this difficult condition. Alzheimer's disease is extremely trying for the patient and the caregiver, family members, and friends who are dealing with a loved one with the disease. Remember, the challengers are neither your fault nor theirs. Patience, understanding, and compassion on your part can mean the difference between failure and success in effective communication.

Parents are who made us who we are today. They care for us when we are sick, they drive us to practice, they cook our favorite meals on our birthdays. Parents do a lot for us, no matter if it seems small or big. Don't forget to appreciate them today and every day!

Good Afternoon. Normally, I do not wade into the social media arena. A post from this morning circulating now requires a response.
First of all, Ms Hall was informed this morning that if her check did not arrive in the mail by end of day tomorrow, to contact the office and a replacement check would be at the office on Wednesday. I spoke with the KY Dept of Labor this morning and explained the matter and they had no issues with how things were being handled. No one is refusing to pay anyone.
Most everyone knows that Bowling Green mail does go to Nashville to be sorted and returned. It has been that way for more than 10 years. We allow 10 postal working days to go by before we will reissue a new check for one potentially lost in the mail.
Her post was unecessary and so was having 2 people attempt to contact the office claiming to be 'attorneys'. Funny when I attempted to call them, same number by the way, it was sent straight to voicemail. It would have been nice to speak with a real attorney.
Additionally, to those individuals calling the office to harass my staff, I have your names and numbers and will consider whether I turn those over to authorities.
My apologies to Bowling Green and the community that this situation was blown so far out of proportion. There will be no more comments from this office and the situation will be put to rest this Wednesday at the latest. Todd McGee

It is important to remember that it takes a team to ensure the highest quality of physical and mental health for a senior. Here are some ways to remain socially connected as a senior:
🎮 Play virtual games - Many popular games like Scrabble and Monopoly can be played online
👫 Invite others over - The best way to be socially connected, is being face-to-face. Invite family and friends over for lunch or game night.
📬 Become a Pen Pal - The art of writing letters is diminishing more and more over the years, so find a pen pal and become friends!
☀️ Hire a Caregiver - When life gets busy, we understand that you cannot spend all day every day with your loved ones. Find a caregiver to sit with them while you're away.

Happy 4th of July!!
What's your favorite part about the day??
Since older adults are more susceptible to skin cancer, it is important that they are taking the proper measures to protect their skin and make it an everyday routine. Seniors can enjoy the outdoors this summer, but we encourage following these to make it more enjoyable.☀️👒🧴⏱

According to the Alzheimer's Association, it's important to implement routine and creative daily schedules to those who may be dealing with Alzheimer's or Dementia. Routines and creativity can help seniors stay focused, promote relaxation, and decrease the risk of depression. At the same time, one can bring joy, purpose, and positivity to a daily routine.
Some more activities can be:
~ Baking
~ Take a walk
~ Water plants
~ Sit on the porch with some lemonade
~ Play catch or toss a ball around
~ Some simple table activities like puzzles or coloring
As we age, simple tasks like cooking can become more challenging. However, with the advancements in technology and the availability of kitchen gadgets designed specifically for seniors, cooking can continue to be enjoyable and hassle-free. Cooking at home allows seniors to control the ingredients and portion sizes, which can positively impact their health and nutrition.
Look for some senior-friendly kitchen gadgets like ergonomic utensils, automatic can openers, easy-to-read digital scales, and safety induction cooktops.
Caregiving can be a rewarding experience, and an opportunity to give back some of the care and compassion received earlier in life. As we watch family members age, it can bring up big emotions and challenges. It's hard to see an aging parent-loved one growing older and in need of help. Especially when it comes to having the initial conversation about options like in-home care.
We are here to help you, so give us a call today for more information.
