Volunteers at Soar in 4 are helping children develop fine motor skills by distributing pencils. A proper tripod grasp is essential for school readiness and writing control. For more information about pencil grasp development, follow this link: https://www.theottoolbox.com/pencil-grasp-development/
Ms. Monique, a Soar in 4 literacy warrior, explained the importance of patterns. Patterns help children make predictions because they begin to understand what comes next. They also help children learn how to make logical connections and use reasoning skills. Patterns can be found everywhere in our daily lives and should be pointed out to small children.
Jump into learning fun with hula hoops! ✨Hula hoops can be used in so many different ways. Try laying them on the ground and having kids jump from one to another to improve coordination and motor skills. It’s a great way to get active and creative! 🌟🎨
Stretch, move, and learn with yoga! 🧘♂️Yoga helps kids improve their focus, balance, and flexibility. It’s a great way to learn about body awareness and mindfulness. Plus, it can be a fun storytelling activity by imagining each pose as different animals or objects! 🌟🌿
Thanks to our community partner The Manatee County Agricultural Museum for bringing The Forestry Service and Smokey the Bear to a Soar event! Families learned that Smokey needs our help to prevent wildfires. Smokey shared activities, games, and information about protecting the forest.
Visit https://www.smokeybear.com/en/smokey-for-kids/story-maker to make a story featuring Smokey. 🐻🌴🌳
Family engagement is when families and educators partner together to share the responsibility of supporting a student’s learning.
Mr. Robert is a Soar literacy warrior. He demonstrates "Doing It Together" at Soar events. Families have the opportunity to explore the literacy materials together and then take turns doing it. Mr. Robert provides feedback and answers questions so that families can continue the activity at home. Thank you Mr. Robert! 📚
Keep the learning going this summer with sidewalk chalk! Drawing letters, numbers, and words on the sidewalk is a fun way to practice writing and spelling. Plus, it gets kids outside and moving!
No chalk? No problem! Give your child water and a paintbrush or sponge to “paint” the sidewalk or an outside wall. It's a fun way to see how the heat of the sun changes things by making them warm and evaporating the water. 🌞💧
Effective parent-teacher partnerships are instrumental in shaping a child's successful preschool experience. Soar teaching warriors, Ms. Becky and Ms. Nikki, practice "show and tell" with families. They show the family how to use the materials they distribute and tell how the activity supports the Florida Early Learning and Developmental Standards. 🌟📚
📚 The 2024 Summer Learning Program with the Manatee County Public Library System has started, but you can still enroll your child to help avoid the summer slide and take advantage of free educational events! Plus, for every 5 hours of reading, your child receives a FREE book!

🌟 Volunteer Spotlight at Soar in 4! 🌟
Pam, on the left, shared: “Soar in 4 is Manatee County’s opportunity to reach out to and help shape our future. The children who will be the doctors, nurses, auto technicians, rocket scientists, etc. are being shaped now not only by their families, their neighborhoods, their churches, and their schools, but by our community as well. They need to know and trust in their community, and that giving back or paying forward is to be valued. The value of Soar in Four will not be immediately realized as it is a stepping stone in forming a firm foundation for future success. I am proud to be part of the Soar in 4 team.”
🧩 Puzzles are perfect for summer learning fun! 🧩Working on puzzles helps kids develop problem-solving skills, hand-eye coordination, and patience. It's also a great way to build vocabulary and improve memory as they recognize and remember different shapes and pictures. 🧠✨
🌟 Sensory fun at our Soar in 4 event! 🌟 Kids loved exploring our sensory toys, which help develop fine motor skills and encourage sensory play. These activities are perfect for creating a calming and engaging learning environment. 🎉🧩

The Power of Playing Together! Ricardo attended Soar in 4 during his VPK year and is now in kindergarten. “We keep coming back simply because he loves it. But there’s so much more to it as well. It’s something important we can do together.” Soar in 4 provides quality together time for families.
Imagining, trying new ways of doing things, and experimenting help develop critical thinking skills in children. Marissa, a student at Tillman Elementary, stares intently at her project as she considers what colors to draw with next.
