Branford Professional Firefighters Local 2533 members are currently in 4th year of our annual fundraiser “Mullets for Mutts”. During this time, our members will be selling merchandise and collecting donations for animal related services in Branford and surrounding towns. The fundraiser 4th Annual Mullets for Mutts, is set to be held at the Stony Creek Brewery on October 26th.

This year we are helping our friends at Branford Police Department, specifically K9 Arrow and our friends from the North Haven PD and their K9s Dietz and Quella to accommodate new police K9 protective vests and other accessories to allow the dogs and their handlers to be as safe and as beneficial to the community as possible. We will also be donating to Branford High Schools Paws for a Cause and the therapy services they provide to students through the use of K9s.

Please follow the link below if interested and as always, thank you for being the best community in and around the state of CT!

The men and women of Branford Professional Firefighters Local 2533 would like to thank for their continued support of the First Responder community. In March of this year, FDNY Ladder 11 of East Village, Manhattan, NY, was ordered to take down the Thin Red Line American Flag honoring the company’s six brothers killed on 9/11. This came after a complaint filed to the FDNY, resulting in an order to remove the flag. Hours later, Chief of Department John Hodgens reversed the decision and allowed the flag back on the truck.

In response to this event, Born Primitive has donated over 1500 Thin Red Line American Flags to fire stations around the country. Just the other day we received our package in the mail and were overwhelmed to see not only did Born Primitive donate two flags, but they also sent each of our members a gift card to their website.

Born Primitive is a veteran owned and operated company who designs and produces functional fitness apparel with a special focus to the military and first responder community. Please go check them out and support their mission to give back to the military and first responder community.

I have been participating with the Special Olympics since 1999, I started as a swim coach and then transitioned to soccer. I was the Cheshire Special Olympics soccer head coach for 18 years and also ran in the Law Enforcement Torch Run. Due changing careers and my boys getting more involved with their sports activities, I was not able to be as involved as I once was with the Special Olympics. I still participate in the Torch Run and this year I will be going Over The Edge for Special Olympics CT, to raise critical funds that keep amazing programs running for the Special Olympics. I will be rappelling more than 30 stories, from the Mohegan Sun’s Sky Tower.PLEASE consider donating for this amazing opportunity to raise money for Special Olympics CT. Thank you !! 🪜 Got ladders?🪜

Regular drilling on ladders is indispensable for fire departments to uphold safety standards, improve operational efficiency, and ensure preparedness to effectively respond to emergencies.

In emergency situations, there's little room for error. Thorough training on ladder operations reduces the likelihood of mistakes and minimizes the potential for accidents or injuries, thereby enhancing overall safety for both firefighters and the public.

Branford Fire Department - Staffing Plan 03/22/2024

The Branford Fire Chief recently presented the department’s budget to the Board of Finance. The BOF will present their recommendations to the RTM on April 1st. The full RTM will consider the budget in late April with a final decision in May. We are asking those Branford residents that support the department’s budget proposal, that includes adding EMTs to bolster our emergency response capabilities, to contact their RTM members to encourage them to support the BFD’s budget. The department’s planned EMT expansion and supporting data can be found here https://www.branfordfireplan.com/. Thank you for your support!

Branford Firefighters have started 2 training sessions this week, both aimed at enhancing department members skills and qualifications as well as providing the best possible service to the community of Branford.

The first training is within the departments marine division. This training will allow career personnel to become operators of Branford Fires career staffed vessel, Marine 2. This training started for members this week and will continue for the next several months with the end goal of being Marine Operators.

The second training is for our newest members that have completed the state of Connecticuts Aerial Operators class. This training is in house and will be completed over the next 2 weeks, with the end result of members becoming operators of our Truck 1.

Special thank you to Deputy Chief Michael Stackpole for his commitment to enhancing the marine division within the FD. Another thank you to Captain Jim Carson for leading and training the newest aspiring aerial operators.
