This is called an intertrochanteric femur fracture and is common in the elderly after a ground-level fall.

Fixation is done with a rod placed in the center of the femur which stabilizes the two fragments while it heals. The patient is usually allowed to walk with some assistance right after surgery.

The forearm consists of two bones called the radius and ulna. When both bones of the forearm are fractured, it is not uncommon for them to break through the skin making it an "open fracture." These open fractures always require surgical intervention to wash out the foreign debris and fix the fracture. This decreases the risk of infection and increases rates of healing.

Inflammation is a localized reaction of the body that can present with redness, swelling, warmth, or pain. The pain can sometimes be severe and limit our ability to do simple activities that we are used to doing.

Cortisone (AKA steroid) injections can be a great option for treating inflammation.

For more information on inflammation or joint pain, please contact us or make an appointment.

Kids have incredible healing potential. Certain fractures that would usually require surgery for an adult, can easily be handled in a cast or sling in a child. It is very rewarding to watch them bounce back in an amazing way in such a short period of time.

We see treat patients from all age ranges and do our best to make sure they all leave with a smile.

Dislocation of the knee cap, known as patellar instability, has many different causes including loose ligaments, patellar malalignment, trauma, or the shape of the bony anatomy.

Because of this, treatments vary widely as well. However, most agree that for first-time dislocations, non-operative management is appropriate with bracing and physical therapy.

My kids are always so curious about what I do when I'm at work. I decided to show them. Although they have great hands, their sterile technique was questionable. 🧐😬

Did you know that the shoulder is the most commonly dislocated joint? The shoulder is designed to have tremendous range of motion. Unfortunately, this increase in motion leads to an increased risk of instability and dislocation.

Why did Dr. Johnson become an Orthopedic Surgeon?
-
“I became an orthopedic surgeon because I find the mechanics and function of the human body to be fascinating. I also enjoy playing sports and can relate to the sorrow and disappointment that an injury causes. It is very rewarding to see people return to the sports and activities that they love.” - Dr. Dan Johnson

What are the 4 major ligaments of the knee?

ACL – Anterior Cruciate Ligament

PCL – Posterior Cruciate Ligament

MCL – Medial Collateral Ligament

LCL – Lateral Collateral Ligament

Disruption of one or more of these ligaments will lead to pain, swelling, instability, or the sensation of giving away of the knee. The treatment for ligament injuries depends on the ligament involved, the exact location of the injury, and the number of ligaments involved.
Comment below if you have torn one of these ligaments before, and don't forget to tell us how you tore it.
