Thrive's 2023/2024 Teacher Learning Circle, aka TLC, teachers gathered for their final session this past Saturday at the beautiful Ocean Hour Farm ( ) in Newport. In addition to learning about all the work Ocean Hour is undertaking, teachers also learned about mindfulness techniques for both their students and themselves with holistic healer Awilda of Amorosa Wellness finishing the session with a healing sound bath and brunch! A little TLC for our TLC teachers! Congrats to all! 🥳
Interested in learning more about next year's TLC? We will have a sign-up link in our June newsletter!
We also want to extend a huge thank you to and for their generous support of this valuable program!
Join us! We have a wonderful Family Nature Walk planned for Sunday, June 2 at 12:30pm at the Audubon Nature Center and Aquarium. Through our Empowering Youth Hike Leaders program, a collaboration with @riaudubon, we’ve trained teens and young adults to lead community walks for Bristol children and families. The Youth Hike Leaders will join in leading this Nature Walk, engaging the kids with hands-on learning activities.
Participate in the hike, then don't forget to hop over to Mt. Hope Farm to join us for the Fresh Air Family Fun Day to benefit the new Kickemuit Middle School Outdoor Learning Zone!

Teachers, save the date! Outdoor Teaching Day is Thursday, May 23rd, and now is a good time to think about what activity you can do outside with your students. Please note that if this specific day isn't good for you, you can 100% choose another day that week to bring your students outside. Make sure to tag us with your pictures! Thank you Dear Avant Gardener for sponsoring this Thrive Outside initiative!

We are thrilled to introduce Lifespan as the official sponsor of our Spring Junior Gardener workshops! Our program aligns beautifully with Lifespan's shared values: Compassion: We are cultivating compassion for all of Earth's creatures among these future Earth stewards we are working with. Accountability: Gardening is a wonderful introduction to the idea of what happens when we don't follow through on our intentions. It takes a lot of focus and patience to begin a garden and see it through to the fruit bearing stages. Respect: As with any relationship in our lives, our relationship with nature must be based on respect in order for it to be a healthy, balanced relationship. Excellence: When students learn that they can grow their own food they learn that they can depend on themselves. Thrive Outside also firmly believes that hands-on learning of this nature encourages academic excellence, particularly in STEAM. Thank you Lifespan for your support!
Our Trusty Thrive Outside crew sojourned to Riverside Park in Providence for a family walk and clean up with support from a grant from Litter Free RI. We met some energetic kids and some future Thrive Families, handed out some bilingual birding journals and left the park better than we found it. Thanks to all who volunteered their time to beautify a beloved park.
This event was made possible by a RI DEM Litter Free RI grant. Thank you @ridem
Want to get involved? Our next event is an opportunity for some family birding! Join us this Saturday, May 18th at either Riverside Park in Providence at 10am or Stephen Olney Park in North Providence at 1pm!

Our Story
An idea sprouted
Looking out from the front steps of her childrens’ elementary school was a pivotal moment for founder Shannon Rozea. Set in a pastoral, seaside landscape, she could see Bristol Harbor in the distance and Silver Creek meandering past the school toward the ocean.
What an amazing landscape for outdoor learning she thought to herself.
There was one glaring problem though. The children were rarely taken outside to enjoy and learn from this landscape. And when they did go outside for recess they played on asphalt surrounded by a chain link fence.
