A dear friend who I admire and respect handed me some tough love last night. It triggered a lot of emotion and ugly thoughts and feelings that I didn't realize we're still present. It showed me that I am still carrying beliefs from my childhood that no longer serve me. The ways in which we relate with the world are so deeply rooted in our subconscious... When they reappear we need to be able to treat ourselves with compassion and care and observation.
I decided to put my thoughts and feelings into words and share them *gasp* once again. I invite you to join the conversation as I plant seeds for what is to come.

“I hope that in this year to come, you make mistakes.
Because if you are making mistakes, then you are making new things, trying new things, learning, living, pushing yourself, changing yourself, changing your world. You’re doing things you’ve never done before, and more importantly, you’re Doing Something.
So that’s my wish for you, and all of us, and my wish for myself. Make New Mistakes. Make glorious, amazing mistakes. Make mistakes nobody’s ever made before. Don’t freeze, don’t stop, don’t worry that it isn’t good enough, or it isn’t perfect, whatever it is: art, or love, or work or family or life.
Whatever it is you’re scared of doing, Do it.
Make your mistakes, next year and forever.”
- Neil Gaiman
What are some things you've always wanted to learn? See? Do? Try? Taste? Hear? Feel?
Let's make a list, hang it where you'll see if at least twice a day, and take steps to experience those things you've only wondered about.
The only way to have a different life is to do things differently. And every day, in every moment, with a single breath and step of faith, we are blessed with the opportunity to begin again, to react differently, to be someone we'd rather be. And don't forget to have compassion in your heart for yourself ALWAYS.
A cool thing happened today. I thought I was experiencing an anxiety or panic attack. Or intense sadness. It came out of a moment that triggered so many like it before. Instead of fighting it I felt into it. I needed air, so I went outside. I felt hot and clostrophobic, so I took off my sweater. I let myself heave and cry. And it was over pretty quickly. As I lay there catching my breath I held space for myself as I would a friend. And I smiled at the thought that what if that wasn't sadness or fear or pain... What if that was simply a moment of beautiful healing? Of space? Of release? Of growth? And in that moment I was able to give myself compassion and power and praise, versus shame, guilt, or anxiety.
I have so much hope and joy when I see western medicine acknowledging the emotional/spiritual connections!
Opinion | Why Your Cardiologist Should Ask About Your Love Life The heart may not be the origin of our feelings, but it is affected by them.
Yesterday was my day off and it had plans of it's own. I made a few promises to myself and the biggest one is to let go of all control, to let the Universe guide me, to say "yes" and to simply go with the flow. And most importantly, not question it or look for the deeper lessons or meanings behind it all (not easy! But a good practice 😉) With that said, we got into our backyard mid-afternoon and were rewarded with wildflowers, sunshine and our own little island. Life is grand when you let it be ❤️ @ Curtis Canyon
"Intimacy Without Boundaries" by Limber on DailyOM is really eye-opening! After all of the research and work I have done over the years I am surprised to find so many important points and perspectives that I have still yet to consider. I am only on day 3 but I highly recommend it! The language is approachable and the "lessons" are short and sweet!

W R I T I N G P R O M P T ✏️ I woke up to feeling totally drained (most would call this the beginning of a cold) but I know what my body is telling me. "Just be. Let go. Relax." I made some sauteed greens and garlic and tomatoes to up my vitamin c and got to reading Anatomy of the Spirit. Two pages later I felt the call to write. I encourage you to take 10 minutes at some point in your day to do the same. The first prompt filled nearly a whole page and those that followed came quite naturally. You can use these to begin or flow freely with your own inner dialogue that feels most appropriate for your present needs🙏
1) "I forgive myself for..."
2) "I accept.. "
3) "I release..."
4) "I create...
Now a cold shower to wash it down the drain, to balance my vata, and to begin again, as I chose ❤️
Denying Your Feelings
"Denying your feelings is not only unhealthy for the mind and body - it may also rob you of valuable information you could be learning about yourself.
Dealing with powerful emotions can be challenging, especially when we are going through chaotic, sad, or cruel experiences in our lives. Often, it can seem like we have only two options for dealing with our feelings so they don't become too overwhelming. We may let our feelings out in an immediate and visceral way, or we may bottle them up by suppressing our emotions inside our bodies. Most people make the second choice, repressing their feelings in an attempt to deny them. The truth is that there are many positive ways to deal with emotions, and experiencing your negative feelings doesn't have to constitute a negative experience. Denying your feelings is not only unhealthy for the mind and the body, but it may also rob you of valuable information you could be learning about yourself and your life. Suppressing your emotions can even impede your short-term memory. Acknowledging your feelings can help you better understand them and help you recover naturally from change, stress, and grief.
If you find that facing your feelings head on is proving too difficult during times of emotional distress, you may want to explore alternative ways of expressing them. Otherwise, the emotions you deny could morph into unconscious anger or self-hatred. Expressing your thoughts to friends or family can be helpful. If you don't feel ready to share them, try giving them words by writing down what you are feeling. Give whatever you are feeling simple words like "livid" or "angry" or "excited" You can also funnel your feelings into a creative outlet, physical exercise, or chores. Even just accepting and speaking your feelings out loud to yourself can be a healing release. In releasing intense emotions, it is most beneficial to acknowledge the feelings, allow yourself to feel them, and let the feelings go. Those who are willing to experience and release their feelings without judgment also find that their lives become less stressful. Breathing deeply, going for a long walk, or doing a constructive task can help you respond to your feelings in a healthy way.
While burying negative or uncomfortable feelings can numb the pain, it also may inevitably dull your ability to experience your more positive and pleasurable feelings. You may find yourself afraid to open up in the future for fear of getting hurt. The feelings we deny aren't limited to anger and sadness. Suppressing our happiness or excitement can be just as unhealthy. In learning how to express your intense emotions in a healthy way, you are giving yourself the freedom to fully experience the more joyful emotions that come with being alive." - BY MADISYN TAYLOR
Defense Mechanisms
BY MADISYN TAYLOR
Because we are spiritual beings, we have the ability to rise above habits and patterns to see the truth
We all have defense mechanisms that we've developed over time, often without being aware of it. In times of trouble, the behaviors that have worked to get us past challenges with the least amount of pain are the ones that we repeat; even when part of us knows they no longer work. Such behavior is a natural response from our mental and physical aspects. But because we are spiritual beings as well, we have the ability to rise above habits and patterns to see the truth that lay beyond. And from that moment on, we can make choices that allow us to work directly from that place of truth within us.
Most of our defense mechanisms were developed in childhood; from the moment that we realized crying would get us the attention we craved. Passive aggressive ways of communicating may have allowed us to get what we needed without being scolded, punished or laughed at, so we learned to avoid being direct and honest. Some of us may have taken refuge in the lives of others, discovering ways to direct attention away from ourselves entirely. Throwing ourselves into projects or rescuing others from themselves can be effective ways to avoid dealing with our own issues. And when people are truly helped by our actions, we get the added bonus of feeling heroic. But while defenses can keep away the things we fear, they can also work to keep our good from us.
When we can be honest with ourselves about what we truly desire, then we can connect our desires to the creative power of the spirit within us. Knowing that we are one with the energy of the universe allows us release any need for defense. Trusting that power, we know that we are exactly where we are meant to be, and that challenges bring gifts of growth and experience. When we can put down arms raised in defense, then we are free to use our hands, minds, hearts and spirits to mold and shape our abundant energy to create and live our lives." -
IT ISN'T IMPORTANT WHAT CALLS YOU TO ACTION, WHAT IS IMPORTANT IS THAT YOU ANSWER 🌟🔥💥 I've been opperating from my comfort zone lately and I am reminded of how this doesn't always serve me. The past two months have seen me from a place of shrinking, of defense, of new wounds colliding with old. I've spent a lot of time in my head which has cultivated fear and self-doubt. First off, you must have awareness and compassion around all of your days, weeks, seasons and stages. Second, you have to remove the thoughts that are the obtacle to your truest self. I told myself I would only run 4 miles today (insert excuses and reasons) and at mile 2.6 said "nope, you need to go further, you need to push yourself to go beyond where you feel comfortable." And as I'm breathing and in a pretty cool flow state I had all of these other epiphanies around my thoughts and behaviors and how they have not been serving me. How playing small and not showing up leave me feeling even worse (and create more conflict and anxiety). I haven't experienced what I have or arrived at this moment by having doubts and fear and compromise. That's not who I am nor who I want to grow into. So let us continue to show up and do one little thing that makes us uncomfortable every day ❤️
This is a constant for me. Trying to work with the years of conditioning, the deep rooted reactions and mechanisms to which I naturally and instinctively cling too.
We are all older, wiser, and have more experience under our belts, yet we are forever our child-selves.
Becoming aware of your responses (and learning how to create space between them) and your reactions is HUGE for creating new neural pathways, and therefore, new experiences.
Notice your triggers. Listen to your emotions. Find a new way to interact with life.
And always remember to have compassion and take care of that younger, perhaps more vulnerable version of you.
The Magic of Removing your Emotional Armor | John Douillard's LifeSpa Most of us think we are in control of our thoughts, desires and aspirations, but science begs to differ. Our conscious mind—which we actually do have control over—makes up only about 5% of our behaviors. It is our unconscious mind, which we are unaware of, that controls 95% of the things we do, ...

As I experience more in this body with this soul, I realize what I feed myself (in terms of food as fuel) has an even bigger purpose. Not only to help me feel well, energized, focused and strong... but to allow my attention to be placed on my actual self, on the emotional and mental health that requires the tougher, more acute awareness and dedication to being. 🌈🙏❤️

Lost Art Of Bending Over: How Other Cultures Spare Their Spines No, we're not talking about squatting. We're talking about a way to bend over that's nearly disappeared in our culture. And it could be one reason why back pain is so common in the U.S.

A big thank you to everyone at for always taking such good care of me‼️ I'm grateful to have such a lovely local spot to fuel me just the way I like - clean, green, and plant powered 😇 Self-care takes many forms (last night it was a spicy marg, loaded chips and girl talk) and today it's back on what feeds my bigger, long term work and fitness goals. Sundays are the perfect day to reflect on what's effective, what isn't, and where you can make little adjustments to have a more fulfilling week ❤️🤺🌱
A lovely way to shift your thoughts and speech as we settle in to 2018. Life is a practice - we don't arrive, we don't obtain perfection, we aren't going to be fixed. We practice, everyday to reshape the way we react and respond to all that surrounds us, including ourselves ✌️♥️🙏
When you start to say NO the universe will reward you with YES 🔥🌟❤️ It is in the little ways, like "no" to post-work happy hour with friends and "yes" to a cold, snowy and giggle filled run with this handsome guy. It is "no" to situations, relationships, and distractions that leave you depleated emotionally. "Yes" will show up in the most lovely people, places and moments - often exactly how you've dreamed of them. "No" is scary and uncomfortable and goes against our core upbringing, yet "Yes" is the most rewarding experience you can have and is what truly fills you up. Here's to a year full of a lot more "yes" and trust and manifesting and "no" to that which feels small, suffocating, or simply less than special 😘
First snowy run of the season! ☃️👟🌚
So often we become attached to versions of ourselves. Versions of our relationships, of our lives. These variations of self are only a small fraction of our true self and our whole self. Simple perceptions created from past expressions and future aspirations. Learning to accept and love all of our versions is a big step toward freedom. This is my It works just as hard, shows up for me everyday, and allows me to do the things I love most. Embrace the seasons of your physical, emotional, and mental self. Life is too short and lovely not to ❤️🙏🙃
