โInside is pimped out in white faux fur on everything but the handmade bomber-style seats. White vinyl upholstery keeps driver and passenger comfortable without the ticklish sensation of the fuzzy stuff! The minimalist dash has an ignition switch, a direction indicator switch, and a suggestion to the authorities painted on it. The steering column hangs beneath the original dash panel, held fast by an old con rod. Gears are selected by way of a repurposed ยฝ inch drive breaker bar with some unfortunate fellow shrunken head sitting atop it. The only instrumentation is housed in a headlight bezel mounted to the transmission hump.
As with many a hot rod, details abound but subtly keep interested onlookers busy for extended periods as they discover said details while soaking in their beauty. This Tudor plays the same parlor tricks. Small chrome bullet-style motorcycle turn indicators are mounted to the top of the headlight bezel, while a matching pair protrude from the bodywork at the rear next to the recessed stop and tail lamps. A single Duolamp hangs below the license plate for roadworthy purposes. Apart from the windscreen, all windows in this Model A are orange acrylic to match the rich metal flake orange paint. In keeping with the low-budget theme, a comrade who is a spray-painting teacher had his students apply the metal flake orange as a classroom project! And if it isn't orange, it's white. The chassis, interior, and removable vinyl roof panel are the other shade in the minimalist color palette.โ - Olโ Skool Rodz 118๐ฅ

In Australia, we have automotive influences from all corners of the world. Our own car manufacturing industry was heavily influenced by the U.S. market early on, so our love for American cars is strong, and why wouldn't it be? The European market was also a strong influence in its twilight years before disappearing. I mention this bit of trivia because this particular car borrows many parts from the locally made Holden parts catalog (a GM subsidiary) where the U.S. "there is no substitute for cubic inches" ethos meets Eurotrash body styling. An unholy union, perhaps, but now at least, you'll know what I'm talking about. I know. I'm digressing again!
A 1930 Ford Tudor on its original wheels and an unmodified body stands around five and a half feet tall from tarmac to turret. This one is about three and a half feet. Perhaps it's for performance; its low stance would surely slip through the air much more efficiently. Maybe it was designed to do double duty as a hovercraft or drive-by viewing platform for sneaker lovers. My guess is it's probably because it looks bloody cool!
This hot rod style isn't a new concept, but there wasn't anything like it in Australia when this Tudor was built. Built by Tony Webster of Webby's Speed Shop fame in Newcastle and owner Matt Sharpe, from scratch and on a pauper's budget, this was an exercise in "let's see what we can come up with using what we have lying around.โ- Olโ Skool Rodz 118 ๐ฅ

โNext up the firewall was shaved, the heater box opening was removed, along with a bunch of unnecessary holes and divots. After he smoothed the firewall, Ryno jumped to the dash and shaved the factory radio, center speaker opening, heater controls, ash tray, light switch hole and wiper control to get it as smooth as possible. To change up the look of the exterior of the car, some Impala side trim and birds were sourced to replace the stock wagon trim.
The 700R4โs bigger size meant a new transmission tunnel needed to be fabricated, and the new low altitude meant that the drive shaft tunnel needed to be moved up a bit. After those were addressed, it was finally time to fabricate new floor foot wells to patch up the holes.
Under the hood, Ryno spent two days smoothing the 283 block and heads, to get that custom clean look. A new Edlebrock intake and 1406 carb were added along with a Pertronix kit in the distributor, some Speedway headers and Smithyโs mufflers to get a little better performance. Some Corvette valve covers were swapped on to the engine to dress it up even more. By now the body color had been decided on and the newly smoothed engine and the transmission were painted body color. One unique feature under the hood are the inner fenders, which were made out of the original set of outer fenders to give the engine bay a clean look.
About 10 months into owning the car, with all of this work done, customer cars took over and the car went up on the lift for awhile for storage.

The car came home on a Tuesday after sitting in a field for 12 years, the first thing that he did was try to get it running. First he rigged up a fuel tank, then rolled the engine over a few times by hand, checked spark and decided that the old 283 wanted to run. A few sputters and a little fire later, the engine is purring along with a little lifter clatter and some smoke. A couple of minutes later the engine is running smooth so he naturally wondered how the Powerglide transmission was doing. He set the parking brake and put it in reverse. Success! Drive, success!
With the carโs motivation out of the way, Ryno rebuilt the braking system and Thursday, two days later, Ryno took his wife to lunch with holy floors and โrat p**p flying everywhere.โ The transmission was shifting hard, while under the car Ryno pulled the drive shaft to find out that there was no rubber left in the center support bearing. A simple rebuild had the car shifting smoothly.
โIโm kinda a clean freak, so once I knew the motor would run I decided I had to clean it up some. One of my sons was helping me until he found a mouse skeleton!โ
Ryno had some various air bag parts laying around the shop from previous builds, so he decided to do some temporary suspension work. He took apart the front suspension and replaced all of the bushings, ball joints, etc. He plated the bottom A-arms to accept the bag mounts and made up some top cups. He then modified the stock rear arms to accept some bags as well.

The all-steel car went under Tomโs saw; first, he chopped the top seven inches and then channeled it another three inches over the frame. Other body modifications include patch panels all around, a deck lid fabricated by the owner, a smoothed firewall, and the door handles were a $1 bin swap meet find that were polished and reworked to fit. Rear nerf bars were also fabricated by the owner. The grille is a 1932 commercial shell, with the top chopped and filled (Tom got this cheap because the bottom was rotted out). To finish off all of Tomโs bodywork, he laid down a Urethane two-stage Nuclear Yellow by Kustom Shop/ Alsa paints and House of Kolor clear. Taillights: 1958 Biscayne.
Other garage-built pieces include a 2x3โ x 3/16โ square tube chassis with 15โ kickup in the rear and 3โ up front, motor mounts, tr**ny cross member, steering box mount, su***de perch, split wishbones, and spring perch brackets. Headlight stands were created by the owner. The rear end is a 9โ Ford out of a 1972 Ford Truck (rebuilt by Lance Barger) hanging on coil-over shocks with a Panhard bar and Pete and Jakes ladder bars. Out front, a standard Model A spring with homemade friction shocks, Super Bell "I" beam axle, and reversed Corvair steering box. Brakes Front: 1940 stock drum. Brakes Rear: 1972 Ford drum.โ- Olโ Skool Rodz 118 ๐ฅ

โThe great thing about Tom Purcellโs chopped and channeled 1927 T is the fact that it was truly garage built. Tom spent almost 12 years building the car but admits he worked on other projects during that time, not to mention he had a family and job. When asked if he had help, Tom said, โI did most of the work myself, but I had some help on freshening up the 350 and the 9โ rear end by my good friend Lance. Heโs one of those guys that knows a lot about building cars, so I bounced a lot of my ideas off him as things moved along. Iโm well aware of how fortunate I am to have my friends and family support my endeavors."
Tomโs love for cars started when he was eighteen, โI bought a 1962 Impala when I was 18 and drove it across the country from Maryland to California. That was the first car I rebuilt, and that was it. I was hooked. My brother was the car guy when I was a kid. I grew up taking rides with him in his Z28. I wish he was still around to see this one.โ Tomโs brother would be proud. The first big car show the "T" was entered in, it won the โWay Too Cool Awardโ at the GoodGuys 32nd West Coast Nationals show in Pleasanton, CA.โ- Olโ Skool Rodz 118๐ฅ

โDanny Christmas describing his childhood to Car Kulture Deluxe is like something out of a movie. When he was a kid, Danny recalls his father having a Henry J or Willis in the driveway. Rolling into his teenage years, a local car club in Sand Springs, Oklahoma, let him hang out and fetch parts for them. After being bit by the hot rod bug, Danny got his hands on his first car โ a three-window 1935 Plymouth Coupe with a rumble seat. Those rumble seats would even help him sneak his friends into a local drive-in movie or two back in his high school days.
Like most hot rodders, one car is never enough. Danny says he was fortunate to own various vehicles throughout his teen years. He would buy, fix, sell, or trade for the next one. His best friend Frankie's dad had been an upholsterer and still had all his equipment. Frankie even fashioned blue denim seats for one of his early projects. Another friend's father owned a garage and let the guys work on their projects after they closed.
His wife and then-girlfriend, Ramona, was also about the hot-rodding lifestyle. Danny had a paper route in Ramona's neighborhood. Before high school, he would throw papers and recalled many times when the Plymouth would have to be pushed down the hill next to Ramona's house to get the ol' girl started.
Rolling into the 1960s, the Christmas family owned a new 1964 ยฝ Mustang and a new 1966 Chevy Nova SS, which Danny ordered from the factory with the exact setup he wanted. At that time, Danny's favorite thing was drag racing down a local airstrip in Oklahoma.

La Vicky's makeover took a grueling five years, a familiar story for many of us! She was nosed and decked, and the headlights and taillights were frenched for that clean, smooth look. The grille was removed and replaced with a clean 1953 Chevy piece. The power train to get her moving came from a 1961 Chevy 327 upgraded with a 350 HP CAM. Fitted in behind the engine was a Turbo 350 transmission to ensure the gear changes were smooth. When it came time to lay down the paint, Pete Finlan at Hot Dog Kustoms got the call. He performed all the work inside and outside the car to get those panels straight and smooth. Once the body looked right, a gorgeous baby blue color was sprayed over it, accented by white scallops and finished with grey pinstriping. Padilla figured if she were baby blue, the car would catch people's eyes and draw even more attention. Once the outside was complete, it was time to turn the focus inside.
The car's interior was upholstered with black and white vinyl and beautifully stitched in a tuck-and-roll horseshoe pattern. The dashboard was left original but smoothed out and pinstriped to match the exterior look. The steering wheel was chosen from a 1959 Oldsmobile and fitted to the steering column. The interior wouldn't be complete without a few really neat extras. Custom teardrop k***s were installed and a kustom Lokar shifter fitted with a black widow shifter k**b to top it off. Once the inside was complete, it was time for the finishing touches and reassembly.โ - ๐๐๐ซ ๐๐ฎ๐ฅ๐ญ๐ฎ๐ซ๐ ๐๐๐ฅ๐ฎ๐ฑ๐ 117 ๐ฅ

โHave you ever felt like you were born in the wrong era? As classic car lovers, most of us feel that way at some point in our lives, and it's no different for Joseph Padilla. He wanted to trap time as much as he could, and the best way to do that was to cruise the streets in an old-school ride!! Padilla spent hours scouring the for-sale pages and eventually found a 1951 Ford Crown Victoria in Illinois. It was a canary yellow with a 1954 Chevy grille grafted into the front, no chrome, and stock bumpers. The interior was a plain and simple cloth material. She wasn't the prettiest thing he'd ever seen, but the car wasn't in too bad a shape, which is the main thing for a project! It drove, but it definitely needed some love to get her cruising down the freeway. Straight away, Padilla named her La Vicky. Firstly, because she's a Crown Victoria, and secondly, it goes with the Hispanic culture he knew and loved. The big decision was made to take La Vicky down to the bare bones and completely restore her from top to bottom. His vision was to keep the car period correct and looking classy, almost as if you walked into a time machine and came out in 1951.โ - ๐๐๐ซ ๐๐ฎ๐ฅ๐ญ๐ฎ๐ซ๐ ๐๐๐ฅ๐ฎ๐ฑ๐ 117!

โEventually Rob made the decision to make the truck show quality. There was a lot more work that needed to be done, and that was when it was passed on to the professionals. The body modifications included shaving the door handles, nosed and decked, and frenched the headlights. The hood was turned into one piece, a handmade custom grille was made, and the bumpers were from a โ53 Cadillac. When it came time to paint, Kyle Martin painted the truck a PPG custom color Ivory and added Gold Watson style accents with striping. Every detail of this build was thought out carefully, so everything on the truck matched perfectly. When you take a look inside, the seats have been chopped, lowered, and upholstered with beautiful ivory 1 inch tuck & roll with gold inserts. Glancing at the floor you will notice the gold carpet. As your eyes slowly come up you will see the stock, but shortened, steering column and Mooneyes custom upholstered gold steering wheel. The dash has new stock gauges and a shaved radio. This truck was definitely now the cream of the crop. Under the hood lies a 292 straight 6 engine and Turbo 350 transmission. Even the engine bay is painted gold to match.โ - Olโ Skool Rodz 110 ๐ฅ
