This is of the first originals, especially of a project of that size. I built this gun cabinet when I was a sophomore in high school many years ago. I think I took the plans for a kitchen hutch and modified them to fit my needs. I would go on to build custom gun cabinets for people while I was in college as a side hustle. It's great to see where I started and how I've grown as a woodworker.
Unexpected projects pop up all the time. Thankfully there wasn't an issue finding the right piece of scrap wood and some beeswax to make a new blade plate for the ol' ryobi tablesaw. Plus I think the oak looks pretty nice if I do say so myself.
From old to new! Found two of these on the side of the road and saw how sturdy they were and gave it a a shot. Added some recessed outlets and polished up all the hardware.
Built some faux window frames as picture hangers. It was a fun project that took a little creativity in making new wood look old.
Dry fit on the charcuterie board with sauce holders and purple heart inlay.
NEW MACHINE ALERT!!! I know it's definitely not the most fun addition to the shop, but I have been putting off buying an air scrubber for way too long. The 3417 Air Filtration System is a beast moving over 1000 CFM of air, and its super quiet for what it is. It'll be nice to breath easy and forget about the dust pile up.
Though it's not my favorite thing to do, I do enjoy the end of a refinishing project. I'm not sure how old this shelving unit is but I am sure it's 100% mahogany. This beautiful piece was just sitting in our basement all nicked up and dented. I used a natural stain and a semi gloss finish.
Someone is enjoying the mess I'm making today.
Found some on the shores of Lake Erie today. I think I'm going to open them up and see what's inside. I have a couple ideas as to what I'd like yo make out of a few of these.
Though I haven't made down to the shop in a couple days, I have had some free time to knock out a couple small projects in the garage. Here's 1 if 4 cutting boards for , and what will be a serving tray out of some scrap teak wood.
It's all coming together now. Just drawer faces left to make.
I need to work on my knots, because at this point someone would think that I cannot knot....you're welcome
Staining the base and headboard today since the sanding is done. Looking at installing by Friday hopefully.
Built a few drawers today and all I could think was "Wow, I make a lot of boxes" I might even be good at it.
