What I Admire About Detailing

Detailing, a long-time passion of mine at Proper Paint Protection, is an art that captivates me. It demands attention to detail, a deep understanding of various surface textures, and the determination to see the process through to perfection. What's even more fascinating is the concept of being in a "flow state." This state is when you become so absorbed in an engaging and enjoyable task that your attention is completely immersed in it.

At first glance, detailing may seem like a simple act of cleaning, but for enthusiasts like me, it is much more than that. It provides a precious opportunity to attend to the often overlooked or forgotten aspects, the little things that make a significant difference. Throughout my seven years of experience in detailing, I have realized that each project is unique and presents its own challenges. It may require additional effort or the application of different techniques to achieve the desired results, yet the satisfaction upon completion remains remarkably consistent.

There are countless reasons why I fell in love with detailing, but recently, it's the gratification I derive from using the knowledge and skills accumulated over the past seven years to push the boundaries of my abilities. Witnessing the remarkable transformation of a vehicle, knowing that my expertise and dedication have played a vital role.

Finally, I must say that what truly captivates me about detailing is the sense of admiration I have for the final outcome. It's not just about the process itself; it's the end result that fills me with joy and fuels my passion for this craft.

The truth about applying ceramic coating!

Ceramic coating is simple to apply its wipe on wipe off! Just like wax, wipe on wipe off. What makes ceramic difficult to apply is how sensitive it is to heat and cold. Too hot the ceramic flashes off instantly too cold the ceramic does not bond to the surface of the paint work. Field test update!

The infamous Fusso Soft 99 lasted rough about 8 months before major water behavior degradation was detected. One small layer and 8 solid months of ceramic like properties are achieved with this wax. The bottle boast 12 months but we got 8 not bad at all. If your looking to try this wax out be forewarned. Application is very very difficult apply very lightly and remove immediately wait for the clear to set up and check again. This wax is the definition of less is more!

Should you take your wheels off when washing your car?

In most cases no because there are tools you can use to get around the hard-to-reach places.

So why do we do it?

Taking the wheels off is actually a common practice for us at proper paint protection, because we are looking for the best results possible. Removing the wheels is a step in the process of providing the best results. With the wheels off the calipers are not blocking parts of the barrels and the rear face of the wheels can be cleaned. The hub where the wheels are connected to the car can be cleaned and painted to prevent rusting. When done properly a deep detail on the wheels will complete the look to any car.

For the pursuit of perfection.

Perfection is a term used to describe the absolute best, but everyone has a different vison of what perfection is. Perfection to us starts with a well taken care of car. A car with excellent paint condition and enough paint to perform paint correction services. Paint reconditioning or paint correction is a very technical skill, and it’s not a skill most detailers confidently have. Paint correction is not just a quick run over with a high-speed buffer, it is mechanically removing clear coat off the surface of any vehicle. Clear coat removal is surprisingly difficult for inexperienced detailers because of how precise one needs to be in their technique. Too much pressure and the machine bogs down therefore no correction is being done. Not enough pressure and the machine doesn’t remove enough clear coat paint. Multiple passes build too much heat, causing the paint swell, and paint swelling temporarily fills in scratches. Its takes experience and multiple hours of polishing to understand the feel of machine polishing. Time with a polisher help one’s understanding of how to move along contours, what the tools are capable of and how to respond to different paint systems. Choose a detailer or choose a paint correction specialist to get your car dialed in correctly!
