A while back I posted this map of the ecological regions of Texas, adding that it seemed the most sensible way to envision the state in terms of terrain. What I failed to do was to include the acreage of each of these regions:
1) Piney Woods - 16 million acres
2) Gulf Prairies and Marshes - 10 million acres
3) Post Oak Savannah - 7 million acres
4) Blackland Prairies - 12 million acres
5) Cross Timbers - 15 million acres
6) South Texas Plains - 21 million acres
7) Edwards Plateau - 25 million acres
8) Rolling Plains - 24 million acres
9) High Plains - 21 million acres
10) Trans Pecos Mountains - 18 million acres
For reference, Big Bend National Park is slightly more than 800 thousand acres. Also: I need to get out on the road and explore some more of those acres!
Thank you all for the wonderful birthday messages!
Have a blessed week!
Fall is here finally!
Great Job

in a 40 dog competition.
Thanks to the scouts, judges and Purina!
Thanks to God!
Thank you Donna Gibbons Markey for sending in this lovely photo today of one of Grace’s pups. Clearly loving life in Texas. 💙
I am thrilled to have won the qualifier round at the Texas Red Setter Club AF Trial with LMD's True Grit 'Beau', a promising young setter full of talent and enthusiasm. Special thanks go out to both Virgil Moore and Ralph Niemeyer for their vital roles in shaping his early development; we can't wait what will come next from these remarkable animals bred by Jim Smith.
Thanks to Kellie Akin for your hard work that made this trial happen.Tremendous thanks to all the scouts, judge’s and to Purina for sponsorship.

In 1975 when the Bonanza TV Series ended...Lorne Greene bought The Buckskin Horse whose real name was Danny, that he and James Arness shared riding in between Studios from 1959-1973.
Lorne kept him until 1979 then he donated Danny to a Therapeutic Riding Center. where the Horse taught mentally and physically challenged children to ride until his passing in 1992 at the age of 45, an unusually long life for a horse. to live.

Puppy! Happy hunting!!
Field Trial Setter um
Get ya some, have some FUN!
A little evening stroll with STYLE! What a nice litter.
This is an outstanding litter of Field Trial prospect or Hunting English setter. The sire LMDS's Can't Touch This(Patch) is a first-year Open Shooting Dog. He had an excellent Derby year despite a late start. He won 3 major field trials. The Sunflower Marvin McDowell Classic was a major win for Patch. Patch also won the Southwest Missouri open shooting dog Derby and the Arkansas Derby. Patch placed in another American Field OSD Trial and won an NBHA field trial. He was previously registered as Patch's Prairie Wind. This dog is an excellent bird finder. He has tremendous stamina and ground speed, topped with hard-to-beat STYLE. The Dam is own daughter of Erins's Hidden Shamrock. She has hunted 3 seasons in South Texas and is and fabulous hunting dog, with tremendous bird-finding tools. She has an amazing drive and tolerates the South Texas heat. If you want a fancy bird finder, this is your pup!
