How many people have mental health issues?
According to the National Institute of Mental Health, one in five Americans had a diagnosable mental illness in the past year and about one in 25 individuals lives with a serious mental illness.
Nearly half of adolescents could be diagnosed with a mental illness at some point (NIH). While these rates of mental health problems may appear alarmingly high, they should not be very surprising when we put them in perspective.
Everything will turn out okay, even if it feels hard right now. Hold onto hope; hold onto yourself. Whatever you’re going through will not stay, but you will.
Nurturing yourself involves paying attention to your body as well as your emotional and mental well-being.
