It's a beautiful morning for flax flowers blowing in the breeze!

These flax flowers are part of Fanny's Garden, our recreated 18th-century garden at the Homestead. We know Fanny Allen Penniman was growing flax in the late 18th & early 19th centuries because she included flax in her herbarium, a botanical book her and her daughter created and still exists today at @universityofvermont 's Pringle Herbarium.

It's just about time to start seeing the Boxelder Beetles join us at the Homestead! Primarily found on maple and ash trees, boxelder beetles are native to North America. They can often be viewed sunbathing in the early spring and late fall. In this video, they are using the southern exterior wall of the Allen Houes to catch their Vitamin D. This video clip was captured April 5, 2022.
